Rumsfeld now fellow at Hoover Institution
Source: Reuters

SAN FRANCISCO, Sept 7 (Reuters) - Former U.S. Secretary of Defense Donald Rumsfeld has joined the Hoover Institution at Stanford University as a visiting fellow and will serve on a task force focused on issues pertaining to ideology and terror, the California think tank said on Friday.

Rumsfeld was one of the top Bush administration officials involved in responding to the Sept. 11 attacks and subsequent wars in Afghanistan and Iraq.

Democrats critical of the Republican administration and some former high-ranking military officers charged his leadership of the Pentagon contributed to a botched occupation of Iraq. He resigned as secretary of defense in November 2006.

Rumsfeld's experience will assist the Hoover Institution's research into terrorism, said institute director John Raisian.

7. Someone as versed in "unknown unknowns" needs to be in a think tank.
Can you imagine him giving that "unknown unknowns" speech at a university like Stanford? I just saw that footage on a TV show of funny videos.

10. That particular verbal diarrhea qualifies him for a drunk tank, not a think tank.
Or maybe a toilet tank. "Unknown unknowns." GEEZ. And the sad part is - he was serious! :eyes:

18. Old GOP discards never die
they get recycled in think tanks and corporate boards. Despite the hard propaganda work done for reinforcing the GOp agenda the think tanks are overburdened as lucrative havens for deflated retreads. Of course Dems end up working as consultants, lobbyists and in law firms as well. The point is they always come back and are always cared for if they are loyal to the game and not convicted of too many embarrassing crimes(oK there are plenty of exceptions to that rule!)

24. I suppose it's not fair to blame Stanford--it would be like blaming California for
Nixon and Reagan--although Stanford does have a rep as a corporate predator training school--sort of like the School of the Americas, only not quite so "hands on" as to torture and mass death. Rumsfeld could "improve" it, in that sense. Show little blond co-eds what it's really like in daddy's world.

It makes me ve-e-e-ery uneasy to have him so close by. It's like hearing there is a serial killer in your neighborhood. Who knows what this strangest of Bushite psychos and masterminds might be plotting on California soil, not that far from me?! My serious guess is war on Venezuela and the other Andes democracies (Bolivia, Ecuador), rich in oil, gas, minerals, forests, fresh water and other resources, currently being wasted on helping the poor. Lots of oil. And Mexico is running out. So, where next do the murderous dowsers go? There is lots of scary evidence to support this guess. Another possibility: war with China. I read a curious article by the official state historian of California, a couple of years ago, seriously arguing against some proposal to turn over the San Diego naval facility to the city or something--demobilizing it--and he opposed this because, he said, we need this naval base in California in case of "war in the Pacific." This was, oh, 2004-ish. War in the Pacific? With whom? Probably he was just shilling for California war profiteers, but still, it stayed with me. China. Hm-m. Just the kind of continent-destroying project Rumsfeld would love to put his mind to, in his "retirement" years.

So here's my proposal for punishing Bushites. After we've converted the country to sustainable energy (which would be after we throw Diebold and ES&S election theft machines into 'Boston Harbor'--or any convenient body of water, say the Pacific Ocean at San Diego)--and I have no doubt at all that a democratic people with the right to vote, and our "can do" attitude, can get it done in 5-10 years before all the Bushites die of old age--we deny them energy. No Bushite may have biofuel, or solar power, or any form of energy that permits them to go anywhere, or steal our democracy (or ruin others), or communicate with each other except by smoke signals. That's it. They can eat. They can play tennis and handball (at home). They can live in mansions, and surround themselves with beefy Blackwater bodyguards. They can diddle strangers in whatever public toilets they can walk to, on their two feet. But they cannot use our energy.

They don't even have to give the money back (--although some may say that is much, much too lenient). No fuel--for anyone who has worked in the Bush Junta.

Oh, how I wish some Native American--or Andes--indigenous were running things!

25. A think tank? Are you sure it's not a petri dish of group think?
Your Mr. RRRumsfeld is one of history's biggest f-ups, so what wisdom could he share other than the neocon virus that enabled him to perform his duties as secretary of defense sooo well? How to eff up an invasion 101, and a position paper on serial quagmiring for empire pikers, the advanced course in treasury looting, how I broke the military without getting fired or shot. Fear mongering for profit...
