Fugitive Mexican 'dirty war' suspect dies
ACAPULCO, Mexico, Jan 3 (Reuters) - A fugitive former police commander under investigation for his suspected role in Mexico's "dirty war" has turned up dead about a month after a historic warrant was issued for his arrest.
Isidro Galeana, accused of kidnapping a leftist school teacher in 1974, was buried on Saturday at a cemetery in Acapulco, in the Pacific state of Guerrero.
Galeana, who had been suffering from diabetes, liver and lung problems, had been on the run from authorities since the warrant was issued for his arrest in late November. (snip)
(snip) Galeana's death is the latest twist in the government's attempt to investigate and try hundreds of crimes committed during Mexico's "dirty war" against leftists from the 1960s to the 1980s. (snip)
