Former Pakistan prime minister Benazir Bhutto can return
to the country but will have to face any corruption cases
against her, the government of Pervez Musharraf said today.

The deputy information minister, Tariq Azim, drew a
distinction between Ms Bhutto and Nawaz Sharif, who was
expelled four hours after his return on Monday.

Sky News reported that Ms Bhutto, who lives between
London and Dubai, would fly back to Pakistan on October
23 or 24.

Asked about pending corruption cases against Mr Bhutto,
Mr Azim said: "It's for the law to take its own course.
Everybody has to face cases against them and the same
applies to her."

1. Does this mean we can prosecute Bush after he leaves office?
Will he go live in exile in Paraguay or some place?

Associated Press Writer

ISLAMABAD, Pakistan (AP) - Former Prime Minister
Benazir Bhutto will return to Pakistan from an eight-
year exile on Oct. 18, her party said Friday. The
government said she was free to come back but
would have to face corruption cases against her.

Makhdoom Amin Fahim, vice president of Bhutto's
Pakistan People's Party, announced the date at a
press conference and said that Bhutto would fly
back to Karachi. Supporters, throwing flower
petals over assembled party leaders, chanted:
“Long Live Benazir! Prime Minister Benazir!”

3.  Bhutto announces Pakistan return
Source: BBC

Pakistani ex-PM Benazir Bhutto will return from self-imposed exile on 18 October, despite no power-sharing deal with the government, her party says.

A top member of her Pakistan People's Party (PPP) told journalists in Islamabad that Ms Bhutto would "bring back true democracy to Pakistan".

Ms Bhutto, who has failed to reach a deal with President Musharraf, could face corruption charges on her return.

She says that Gen Musharraf cannot be both president and head of the army.

4. I've never known what to make of Bhutto.
She did her own covorting with fundamentalists, and abetted the terrorism in Afghanistan during the 1980's. But the PPP is relatively secular and has certain leftist factions within it. It's probably the best of a bad lot.
