Ahmadinejad Launches Broadside Against US At United Nations
Source: AFP

UNITED NATIONS (AFP) — President Mahmoud Ahmedinejad said Tuesday Iran considered the controversy regarding its nuclear program over, while launching a broad attack on the United States at the UN General Assembly.

--
Without specifically citing them by name, Ahmadinejad said Washington and its allies, who accuse Tehran of trying to develop nuclear weapons, had been bullying Iran and pressuring the International Atomic Energy Agency.

--
In his 40-minute speech, the Iranian leader went on to accuse Washington of human rights abuses in its "war on terror," with allusions to CIA programs of rendition and detention in camps such as Guantanamo Bay.

"Unfortunately human rights are being extensively violated by certain powers, especially by those who pretend to be their exclusive advocates," Ahmadinejad said, again without mentioning the United States by name.

"Setting up secret prisons, abducting persons, trials and secret punishments without any regard to due process, extensive tapping of telephone conversations intercepting private mail... have become commonplace and prevalent," he added.

15. So you are saying gay Iranians are "well hung" ?
I've seen pics of a mullah leader giving a big lip lock to a 5 yr old boy in public.
I guess it is permissable over there while Elton John gets questioned for pics that look a lot like child porn

8. Criticism of our own government is not allowed.
In the press or congress anyway. That's the nature of our dilemma. And criticism of Israel is not allowed either.

Fine if we want to demonize other countries with oil or rich natural gas fields, such as Iraq, Venezuela, Iran or Afghanistan. But I think Iran is much more progressive than Saudi Arabia. It's all about the oil, whether we can put U.S. multinationals in control of it.

14. Do you really believe the madman from
Iran gives a shit about Americans? Or Bin Laden? They hate everything progressives stand for like womens rights, gay rights, reproductive freedom, etc. In all honesty, would you rather be living here or in Iran as a progressive?

That real criticism seems to comes from outside of our own government, other countries. How many times do we complain about the main stream media suppressing the real news? Unfortunately, our own Democratic candidates are very weak. They don't stand up to the fascism that's going on in our country. Half of them voted to authorize the Iraq war.

Why does it take someone (from Iran in this case) to deny that the Holocaust happened for it to become public that one actually happened in our own country with the American Indians that we have never acknowledged, that we continue to deny? We're holocaust deniers!

Extrapolate it from there. How many other holocausts have we been involved in? At what number should we call the Iraq war that these Democratic candidates voted to authorize be called a holocaust? One million people in a country of ~22 million people is a holocaust in my book.

18. You're missing the point, though.
Yes, the Iranian human rights record is horrible. But worse yet is that we have lost the moral high ground in this debate because of what the * administration has done. The things Ahmadinejad listed are no joking matter, as I assume you would agree. By allowing him to point out these violations, our message against their theocratic bigotry and discrimination is irretrievably diluted.
