Warner hospitalized with heart condition
Source: CNN

WASHINGTON (CNN) -- Influential Republican Sen. John Warner of Virginia was hospitalized Tuesday with a heart condition, according to a statement from the senator's office.

Doctors at Inova Fairfax Hospital performed a procedure to correct atrial fibrillation, the statement said, and a follow-up, routine procedure is scheduled for Wednesday. Doctors expect him to return home this weekend and be back at work next week, it said.

The statement said Warner, 80, "handled planned appointments" at his office Tuesday morning, checking in with the Capitol Physician's Office mid-morning. He returned to his office for more meetings after that, and left in the afternoon for an appointment at the hospital.

Atrial fibrillation is a heart rhythm disorder that usually involves a rapid heart rate.

Warner said last month he would not seek re-election in 2008. (Posted 8:45 p.m.)

But I don't care if you agree or disagree with someone on politics I still hope he gets better. That's what makes me a liberal.

It'll be one less goose stepping Nazi to bite us in the ass later.
Maybe I'm not a "liberal" but just someone who feels strongly about liberty, and the people who work tirelessly to take it away.

18. He's too loyal to Shrub and usually votes the party line, but overall he's a good man:
You can't say that about too many Repukes.
He's done two things that are noteworthy.

He opposed Bork in '87, and he kept that scumbag Oliver North from joining him in the Senate in '94, by supporting an independent candidate.

15. Oliver North would be a senator had it not been for John Warner
Edited on Wed Oct-03-07 08:11 AM by Mike Daniels
That's all that matters from my personal perspective.

The votes gathered by Coleman (who ran as an independent w/ Warner's backing) greatly exceeded the margin of victory that Robb had over North. Without Coleman/Warner, Robb would have gone done in flames.

44. I actually voted for him last time because of that.
He withstood a full broadside by the pug hitmen and never backed down. In my opinion, he's a man who has real integrity, even though he does play the game of politics and plays it well (ala the whole Webb amendment thing). True, he usually votes opposite of what I want, but when it's really important, he does the right thing and will break with his own party. There are a lot of Democrats who I find lacking in that department.

I'm looking forward to the next Senator Warner... Mark Warner. But I still respect 'ol John.

7. Time to retire, John.
My best friend's dad had atrial fibrillation ten or so years ago. It caused his heart to essentially quit pumping for long enough that he almost died - had to be in the hosp for a while, then in a rehab facility for a long time. Got to go home for about a year, then it happened again as they were driving to the doctor for a recheck one day and they couldn't save him.

24. I suspect you aren't really as big an idiot as your post makes you seem
I just spent the past 36 hours at the hopsital with my father in critical care. I sat in a waiting room with other families in similar circumstances. We sought to comfort each other, distract each other, feel for each other. I have no idea what any of their politics are and they have no idea what mine were. It was the ultimate irrelevant concern for any of us.

Sad. So fucking sad.

43. My apologies if I've offended you...
Edited on Wed Oct-03-07 11:31 PM by 4nic8em
When I read this post regarding Senator Warner, my immediate recollection of his name invoked the memory of his confrontation in a Senate debate with John Kerry. During this debate, Senator Kerry was (rightfully in my opinion) trying to convince Senator Warner of the wastefulness of young American soldiers dying in Iraq. (this was during the time that Senator Murtha was attempting to "redeploy" our soldiers to the borders of Iraq to allow the Iraqis to "stand up"). Senator Warner responded in kind to John Kerry with the "cut & run" excuse on why it was absolutely necessary (and required) for more American sons & daughters to continue to fight and die for Bush's Iraq cause. I am sorry for the loss of your father and I grieve with you (my younger sister died of cancer 3 weeks ago). It seems to me, for your chastisement of my remark, that you might also direct the same statement to Senator Warner for allowing other American fathers, sons, daughters, mothers, and their families to grieve the same way you and I have, although in my opinion, the bereavement of those who died in Iraq could have been prevented. Senator Warner from the onset of this "Bush Holy War" has towed the line almost as fervently as Bush himself. I wish no ill will towards Senator Warner (or anyone else for that matter), it's just not terribly easy to feel heartbreaking sympathy for someone who was not overtly concerned with the lives of our kids in Iraq. I agree with you...this is really fucking sad...but I think if you'd bother to confirm the history of Senator Warner as it relates to "supporting the troops", that you might find yourself at least as much of an idiot as you label me.

9. I'm assuming that since there is a Democratic Governor of Virginia, should Warner resign...a
democrat would be appointed to fill the rest of his term?

Anything that would neuter Lieberman's 'majority' chokehold in the Senate would be welcomed, indeed.

I wish Sen. Warner the best...now resign already!!!

11. Should that happen,
It is my guess that Gov. Tim Kaine would appoint former Governor MARK Warner to replace JOHN Warner.
Mark Warner will probably be running for that seat anyway next year.
Two D Senators and a D Governor - We need to work on our Representatives' seats. On thing we need to do is VOTE this November to get more Dems in the House of Delegates. They are the ones who determine the redistricting after the next census.

His influence on the republican party will be sorely missed. He is one of the few remaining voices of reason on that side of the isle, and they don't listen to anyone else. Now who will tell them that the reason their eye's are so brown is because they have shit for brains? (or something to that affect). I know; we'll say it, but they wont hear it coming from us.

didn't have atrial fibrilliation before: rapid heartbeat due to the clashing forces inside him between doing the right thing and standing up for truth and integrity, vs. shilling for bush and going along with the pack of lies that have driven this nation to an unrecognizable place. that is enough to give anyone rapid heartbeat and/or atrial fibrilliation.
