ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. - Rep. Heather Wilson intends to seek the Senate seat being vacated in New Mexico by fellow Republican Pete Domenici, the Associated Press has learned.

Wilson made the decision Thursday after meeting with her family and notified her staff Friday morning. She was calling supporters around New Mexico to tell them of her decision, according to a senior adviser to Wilson who spoke on condition of anonymity so as not to pre-empt a formal announcement expected later Friday.

Wilson is the first major candidate to declare her candidacy for the seat, which Domenici has held since 1973

Fired U.S. attorney alleges political pressure

He says 2 lawmakers pressed him to step up inquiry into Democrats

11:44 PM CST on Wednesday, February 28, 2007
From Wire Reports

WASHINGTON – A political tempest over the mass firing of federal prosecutors escalated Wednesday with allegations from the departing U.S. attorney in New Mexico, who said that two members of Congress attempted to pressure him to speed up an investigation of Democrats just before the November elections.

David Iglesias, who left Wednesday after more than five years in office, said he received the calls in October and believes that complaints from the lawmakers may have led the Justice Department to fire him late last year.

Mr. Iglesias also responded to allegations from Justice officials that he had performed poorly and was too often absent, citing positive job reviews and data showing increasing numbers of prosecutions. He also noted that he is required to serve 40 days a year in the Navy Reserve.

Mr. Iglesias declined to name the lawmakers who called him, but he said in an interview: "I didn't give them what they wanted. That was probably a political problem that caused them to go to the White House or whomever and complain that I wasn't a team player."

2. Wasn't her husband picked up and questioned
about taking liberties with a minor, or something like that?

And, didn't she take steps to make those documents disappear!

4. How about running Joe Wilson against her?
Or maybe even his wife Valerie Plame. They reside in N.M. now.
Wilson vs. Wilson, eh?

14. I've been saying that ever since the Wilsons moved here to NM!
Of course, I could understand if they have had a gullet full of Washington D.C, though. There's also talk of former governor Gary Johnson ('puke) running for Domenici's seat, and Patricia Madrid (D), too. Even though Albuquerque is pretty purple (more blue than red), people here are scared that we'll lose the labs if we don't have someone like Domenici to bring in the money for them. It's an interesting scenario.

7. Compare their voting records
Wilson: http://www.progressivepunch.org/members.jsp?search=selectName&member=NM1&chamber=Senate&zip=&x=74&y=13

Domenici: http://www.progressivepunch.org/members.jsp?search=selectName&member=NMII&chamber=Senate&zip=&x=56&y=9

Wilson is a tick better than the old fossil and she'll probably win. The only real opposition would come if Udall decided to run against her. He's popular in his own district, but not well known in the southern part of the state. Wilson is a camera hog and everybody knows who she is.

The only improvement will be that Wilson will be a whole lot less powerful than Domenici. Plus, she's also under the Attorneygate cloud, which means she'll be watched very closely by a Democratic DOJ.

11. Heather's Democratic opponent needs to be made
aware of the scandal involving Heather's husband and his conduct with a minor.

There are more details and info at: http://www.democracyfornewmexico.com/democracy_for_new_mexico/2006/10/foley_case_not_.html

We need to hang Heather's spouse's actions and Heather's alleged pilfering of official documents around her neck like a noose!

13. I've watched Rep. Heather Wilson many times and she is one
nasty woman. I hope like hell the folks in New Mexico are smart.
