WASHINGTON — Rep. David Hobson announced at 5 p.m. Sunday that he will retire at the end of this term.

<snip>

His retirement makes him the 12th Republican House member to retire after this term and the third Ohioan to do so. Rep. Ralph Regula, R-Navarre, announced his retirement on Thursday. Rep. Deborah Pryce, R-Upper Arlington, announced she would retire earlier this summer.

7. It depends on how much of Dayton the district has...
The outlying area is pretty rural and very conservative...

But you never know...

Of the three Ohioians leaving, the Regula seat is most likely to turn blue however, the Price seat is at least purple so it could go either way, depending on who is the candidate...

12. So a moderate Democrat has to run for Price's seat
Here is a good example of the problem with the far left here at DU. They would have a Sheehan type run for this seat and lose terribly rather than take a moderate Democrat that will, at least most of the time, vote with the majority. With the moderate, things like SCHIPS get to pass.

10. Hobson won in 2006 with 61% of the vote
Of course, he was by then an eight-term incumbent, and hence fairly well entrenched. On the bright side, that was down from his 65% tally in 2004.

The Democratic candidate in 2006 had apparently never run for office before. (See his bio .) If the Dems can recruit some popular local officeholder to run for the open seat, perhaps they can make a race of it.

4. Jeebus, They Know the Jig Is Up
I expect that the Republican Party will get utterly destroyed in the 2008 elections - and the Republicans obviously expect it as well.
