'Stars and Stripes' Reports Being Part Of Pentagon Investigation (over 'America Supports You')
Source: Editor and Publisher

Stars and Stripes, the independent newspaper that covers the military, is being investigated by the Defense Department as part of a probe into a Pentagon program that provides publicity for non-profit groups supporting U.S. troops, the paper reported.

In a story posted on the paper's Web site on Saturday, Stars and Stripes reported that The Defense Department Inspector General’s Office "has widened its review of America Supports You to include Stars and Stripes."

The story went on to say that the America Supports You probe, first disclosed in May, had been looking into whether that group had "moved money improperly."

... “This causes extreme concern among the editorial staff, and could cause readers to question our objectivity as an editorially independent newspaper — an unacceptable situation,” Executive Editor Robb Grindstaff and Managing Editor Doug Clawson said in a joint statement Friday in the paper.

2. I've been wondering how long Stars and Stripes could be critical of the war
and not have something like this happen.

4. Investigating the only military-affiliated publication that
actually supports the troops. Why am I not surprised?

5. This investigation is a relief to Stars and Stripes staff
because without their knowledge the Pentagon transferred Stars and Stripes funds to Susan Davis. About a half mil was transferred to the propaganda PR firm.

6. Not surprised...
Great Comment from Think Progress...

<snip>
With 70% of Americans against the war, let’s hope they run a better propaganda program in Iraq.

I would love to see an Audit to see where they spent the money, just guessing some major fraud.

7. EVERY corner of our government and military has been corrupted by the Bush oil mafia.
The Stars and Stripes.

Unbelievable.

8. I sure hope Limbaugh is part of the investigation
He needs to be removed from Armed Forces Radio. My taxes help pay for that network and I don't wish them to go to support Rush and his Propaganda mill.
