Snag in Enron case plea bargain
HOUSTON (CNN) - Ahead of a pre-trial hearing Thursday, a federal judge rejected a proposed plea bargain from the wife of a former top Enron executive, which would have significantly trimmed her prison time, according to a source familiar with the case.

Former Enron CFO Andrew Fastow
The hearing for Andrew and Lea Fastow is scheduled for 11 a.m. ET Thursday in Houston.

The source said the judge Wednesday rejected Lea's deal which would have reportedly cut her prison time to five months from a possible sentence of more than 10 years. An agreement involving jail time for both could be finalized as early as Thursday.

1. there is a link to a "score card" on the front page of the NYTimes
which shows how many enron execs were indicted and how many have pled out. I didn't see Ken's name but maybe I didn't look closely enough.

Looks like more than half have taken plea bargains but there is no info on sentences.

Has anyone else heard anything about what has been happening in these cases?

At least there is one judge out there who is honest (not accepting the 5 month deal) but I wonder if it's because the defendant is a woman. What did the men get?

... and, then, there's Pug Winokur and Wendy Gramm ... was that Lindsey guy who quit the maladministration part of enron's accounting? ... and, then, there's the subcontracting of the services of Ralph Reed ... and, the use of enron's jets by * in 2000 ...

3. Who is this Federal Judge, and who appointed him/her?
Not for nothing, but if it costs a long-jail term for Lea Fastow reduced to 5 months in order to nail Lay and Skilling to the wall, we should take it. Is there a possibility that rejecting the plea deal is a way to avoid Fastow spilling the beans on the big guys? (Tin Foil Alert!!) ;-)

6. I have a nit to pick
"from the wife of a former top Enron executive"

According to the scorecard isn't Lea Fastow ALSO a "former top Enron Executive"? Why in all of the stories I've seen/heard about this is she always referred to as Andrew Fastow's wife? I haven't seen any where Andrew is simply referred to as Lea's husband. Why the double standard?
