Pinochet family charges dropped

A Chilean appeal court has dropped corruption charges brought against the family of the late former military ruler, Gen Augusto Pinochet.

His widow and five children were accused of sending state funds illegally to foreign bank accounts.

Among the defence team's arguments was that they could not be accused of misusing public funds as they were not state officials, Chilean media said.

The general died in December 2006 before he could stand trial.

It's a real treat, all right.

How can they let them keep these stolen fortunes, anyway? HOW? That money was stolen from the people of Chile, and if their system works like ours, it was stolen from the poor and middle class, of course.

If they weren't convinced they shouldn't be spending it, why did they have it squirreled away in banks all over the world, and sneak around trying to make unnoticed withdrawals?

All that anyone needs to know is how much money their monster husband/father had coming in, add the Chilean dictator's salary, any other income acknowledged, and how much he had when he left as Chile's U.S.-supported dictator. It should be clear how much of this unbelievable wealth is really theirs.
