(Democratic Convention) Delegates to ride in GM style

Could Hillary Clinton roll up to this summer's Democratic National Convention in a Corvette or a Cadillac? Will Mayor Thomas M. Menino arrive in a big GMC Yukon? For Michael Dukakis, maybe there's something sensible, like a Saturn.

General Motors has been designated the official automaker of the convention and will supply 300 cars for shuttling Democratic VIPS, delegates, and cargo during the late July political fete, convention chairman Bill Richardson said yesterday.

Vans, SUVs, and cars of all GM makes, most of them built specifically for the convention, will be supplied so that GM's "brands are equally represented," convention organizers said.

Organizers said no one should expect a rolling political cavalcade of bling-bling, flashy cars parading Boston streets the week of the convention, since most models won't be loaded up with fancy options. Still, they promised Cadillac Escalades, which go for about $52,000.
