I'm not even talking about the enemies making headway against the Pakistani govt in the lawless provinces along the Afghan border.

6. When I woke up this morning my first thought was to log on to see what's
happening in Pakistan. I have a real concern about the situation there. I'm almost on pins and needles. Thank you for keeping us apprised.

8. One report had a snarky quote from some official there.
He said that she refused to accept the detention order, and something like "she didn't even check to see how many days it was for." Or maybe "how long it was for", the difference isn't important here. The only thing I could interpret that to mean was, "This is for a very short time and she's acting like it's a life sentence."

So I hope the report is true.

However, if it is, it shows a consistent set of tactics that seem to be implementing a fairly consistent strategy. I like consistency; it makes things a bit predictable. (And while we're certainly not there yet, every little bit helps. Her detention, and that of some other PPP activists, was predictable given what was reported yesterday.)

9.  Bhutto house arrest order lifted (BBC)
Edited on Fri Nov-09-07 04:11 PM by eppur_se_muova
Bhutto house arrest order lifted

Pakistani opposition leader Benazir Bhutto has been released from house arrest in the capital, Islamabad, officials say.

The order had blocked Ms Bhutto's bid to lead a rally against the emergency rule declared by President Musharraf.

The United States had criticised the house arrest, saying that she had to be "permitted freedom of movement".

Ms Bhutto has vowed to wage a campaign aimed at forcing Gen Musharraf to stand down as head of the army.
