Gore, Schwarzenegger to plan presidential climate forum

SACRAMENTO (AP) — California Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger and former vice president Al Gore are planning a bipartisan presidential forum on energy and climate change in New Hampshire in December, the governor's office confirmed Thursday.

The forum, which is still in the planning stages, is being designed so presidential candidates from both parties will attend. Adam Mendelsohn, a spokesman for the governor, said the format was not completely developed, but the former vice president was handling the Democratic candidates, while Schwarzenegger would handle the Republicans.

Schwarzenegger's office confirmed the forum after Sen. John McCain said at a Sacramento news conference Thursday that he had agreed to attend. The GOP presidential candidate said the climate change issue had not been discussed enough in the race, either by Republicans or Democrats.

Gore's office did not immediately respond to a request for comment. But Mendelsohn said the former vice president was actively involved in designing the forum.

1. So, are people here going to finally accept that Gore's not running?

2. For Some Of Us, There's Nothing To Accept
Many of us are disgusted with the fact that Gore's not running, likely resulting in Clinton being the nominee.

So yes, I accept it, but I'm not at all happy with the prospect that I will likely not be voting for President next November.

I STILL CAN'T SUPPORT CLINTON, regardless of the fact she has a (D) next to her name.

I guess all the Clinton supporters suddenly think that all the Gore supporters are suddenly going to fall in line behind her. I can say for myself, and some other Democrats I know, that this is not necessarily a certainty.

4. I'm not a Clinton supporter either
and dearly wish that Gore had decided to run. I've just been kind of astounded at the level of denial that I've seen on these boards.

Accepting that he's not running is not the same as being happy about it.

8. Among Dems I know who want Gore most are saying anyone in
the party but Hillary. My friends are union so that probably means they are not alone.

12. I feel exactly the same
I have to accept that Gore won't be running. I also have searched my soul and know that with Hillary the likely nominee I will leave the presidential spot blank. :-(

6. Gore is about as likely to enter the race as Ahnold at this point...
When the Draft Gore California group got the communication from his staff, that's when I realized it was over.

I would still vote for him over any candidate running. But I realize that barring a deadlocked convention or an independent candidacy (both extremely unlikely scenarios), there isn't any way Gore will be on the ballot.

7. That was one group among many
And it has not been confirmed.

What I don't get is why anyone cares if people support Al Gore.

9. People can probably accept that he isn't running, but
I wonder it it will have an impact on the election overall. I personally so no candidate I can vote for other than Edwards. I think when Edwards made the statement that we have a corrupt government I guess that just hit home to me the fact that voting for these corporate elitists is just a waste of time because there will be no real change.

11. Republicans will show up in full force to defeat Hillary
unless they're living in a pup tent by then and they'll probably still do it.
