Military wants more money to aid Pakistani paramilitary fighters

(AP) - The Pentagon is looking to boost funding for paramilitary fighters in Pakistan.

Officials say locally-based fighters are more effective than Pakistani troops in battling al-Qaida and pro-Taliban militants in the rugged mountains on the border with Afghanistan. Because of their ethnic ties, they're thought to have more credibility with people who live in the area.

The U.S. is spending money on a training center in the region for the fighters and is looking for additional money to buy them helmets, vests and night-vision goggles. It's not arming the fighters.

They are spending it on conventional military stuff so they are "prepared" if India starts things up again in KAshmir or THEY DO

8. I was not suggesting in any way that they were not lying about it.

I have already seen in several places stories about their "plans" to deal with things when Mushhead finally takes a dirt-nap. If you listen to these guys, you would think if you have a "plan" everything is under control. Whereas anyone with a brain knows that their shitty plans always make the situation worse.

How the heck is "paramilitary" different from "militia" anyway?

And the military could have several billion dollars to spend on all sorts of things. Come to think of it, if we pared our ridiculous military expenditures altogether, we could spend that money on all sorts of things that would actually benefit the people of the United States and make us healthier, better educated, and ultimately, more secure than any doofus running around Baghdad with a rifle.

6. You know, I liked it better when the CIA handled everything

What's a billion among friends? I noticed Mushie-Mush has been looking more dapper than Lou Dobbs before he became a populist. Surely the Pentagon can find some spare change in the starwars sofa.
