Raimondo (R-Ne) to possibly run for Senate as Democrat

BY ROBYNN TYSVER

Columbus businessman Tony Raimondo, a Republican, confirmed Monday that he has met with state and national Democratic officials about the possibility of switching political parties and running for the U.S. Senate.

The talks come a month after Raimondo decided against entering the race as a Republican, saying than that he would have trouble raising enough money to compete in a primary against GOP powerhouse Mike Johanns.

The discussions also come at a time when there is a definite Democratic vacuum in Nebraska. No Democrat has entered the race for the Senate seat being vacated by two-term Republican Chuck Hagel.

"It's a very speculative subject," Raimondo said. "The door for me is not totally closed yet, but a lot of issues need to be addressed."

2. What, if anything makes him a Dem? What, if anything, makes him a better choice than Kleeb?
My guess is: nothing and nothing.

13. Exactly. That's the only reason many so called "centrists" pick up the Dem mask
They firmly believe in the centrist robber baron program but need Dem money and Dem votes to get elected.

6. Will he caucus with the Democrats?
Will he vote in favor of Democratic issues?

Why would he have a better chance of winning election as a Democrat than as a Republican? If he can't win the Republican Primary than how will he win in the General?

How much will the national party have to waste in his election that would be better spent in other elections?

7. Doesn't Sound Like the Party Has Been Able to Find Any Real Democrats to Run
Either they are not looking in the right places or there just aren't any.

10. I'd encourage him to run in the Primary.

And then lower the boom on him and vote for a more worthy Dem. Just to get him to blow all his funds on a lost bid for the ticket. He's a fair weather politician. He's just playing the favorites. If he were to get elected, his allegiance would not be to those who elected him but to his major donors and his favorite SIG's.

12. Finally, truth in campaigning...
Where the rubber meets the corporate road, there is not a dime's worth of difference between the Democan and Republicrat "parties".

15. When the Democratic Party becomes attractive to Republican politicians,
one might conclude that the Democratic Party has been lost. This has a Stephen King novel between the cover.
