Cheney's Heart Restored to Normal Rhythm
By TERENCE HUNT – 4 hours ago

WASHINGTON (AP) — Doctors administered an electrical shock to Vice President Dick Cheney's heart and restored it to a normal rhythm during a 2 1/2 hour hospital visit Monday. The procedure was described as a low-risk, standard practice. Cheney, 66, went home from George Washington University Hospital and was expected back at work on Tuesday.

57. Hy husband had that done years ago for the same condition...in fact twice and
he has no memory of any pain. Maybe it renders you instantly
unconscious. Cheney is lucky and we are unlucky that the shock got his heart beating in rhythm again. It didn't work for my husband who still has quite severe arrhythmia.

30. Huffington Post
posted a blurb on this entitled "Cheney Sent To Hospital With Irregular Heartbeat" at 05.13 on Nov.26/07. I read it about 8p.m and no comments were indicated as being posted and posting was closed off with the notation "comments for the post are now closed". I looked for it this morning and it is gone from the site. Maybe Huffington Post is over editing and being a little too selective? Seems to me news like that about the much loved and admired V.P. of the U.S. of A. should'nt be handled in such an offhand manner, many might have wanted to have to express concerns and hopes for a speedy recovery. Mine would have been "the good news is that he was sent to hospital, the bad news is that he was released",or something along those lines. Guess Huffington thinks they are above the type of comments they knew they would have recieved.

34. Cheney back to work after doctors fix heartbeat
Source: CNN

WASHINGTON (CNN) -- Vice President Dick Cheney is expected back at work Tuesday after doctors used an electrical current to correct an irregular heartbeat, the White House reported.

snip

Doctors described the procedure -- intended to shock the heart back into normal rhythm -- as routine. Cheney left George Washington University Hospital after about two and a half hours.

snip

The 66-year-old vice president has a history of heart ailments, including four heart attacks dating back to 1978. He was briefly hospitalized in January 2006 after suffering shortness of breath.

snip

During the appointment, doctors diagnosed him with atrial fibrillation, an irregular beating of the heart's upper chambers that has been linked to an increased risk of stroke.

CNN Everything is fine ... no problem .... move along .... nothing to see here .....
move along.

Cheney @ 66 with a history of 4 heart attacks and with an on board pacemaker / defibulator
to have to go into the hospital to "shock his heart" back into rhythm is no minor problem.

BTW CNN used the term routine 3 times in this very short article.

and then went to his special office ...

My Dad has had a pacemaker for years and he gets normal "tune ups"

"shocked back" into rhythm is not a "day @ the beach."

55. Its definitely not fun but its not really major either
They are very briefly sedated so they don't feel it but aren't even groggy when its finished. My Mr has had it done a few times. He now has an implanted defibrillator like Cheney and the last time they just used the device to deliver the shock which was much easier than the paddles. We walked out of the hospital approximately an hour after it was finished.

However I would like to stress that my Mr unlike Cheney actually does have a heart.

41. What I simply cannot understand...
is why this man, a father and grandfather, who clearly knows his days on earth are limited, wouldn't want to spend every last minute of them doting on his family. I know I would - ESPECIALLY if I had the obscene fortune in my bank account that Cheney does.

Well, I guess I do understand. Cheney's first loves are money and power, not family. So he IS spending every last possible minute doting on that which he loves the most.
