Iran says it's produced new missile
Source: AP

TEHRAN, Iran - Iran said Tuesday it has manufactured a new missile with a range of 1,200 miles capable of reaching Israel and U.S. bases in the Mideast, the official news agency IRNA reported.

Iran's Defense Minister Gen. Mostafa Mohammad Najjar said the Ashoura missile was produced by factories affiliated with the ministry, according to IRNA. He did not say whether Iran has test fired the missile or has plans to do so.

Many of Iran's weapons development claims have not been independently verified.

Iran launched an arms development program during its war with Iraq to compensate for a U.S. weapons embargo. Since 1992, Iran has reportedly produced its own jets, torpedoes, radar-avoiding missiles, tanks and armored personnel carriers.

1. The Ashoura nickname: "The Commander AWOL Occult BushBuster"
Edited on Tue Nov-27-07 08:47 AM by SpiralHawk
The design is based directly on the US Hawk missiles that republicon darling Oliver "Traitor" North gave to Iran as part of his shady drug-and-muntions dealings in the so-called Iran-Contra treason against the USA.

Image of missiles just like the ones Jolly Traitor Ollie (R) gave to Iran, which can now use them to kill our American sons and daughters in uniform:

7. except, Iran has NEVER invaded another country in its history. Period.
they are currently under attack on at least two fronts - Iraq (via US allied tribesmen supported with arms, intel and training) and its Turkey border, by US supplied and armed Kurds.

Cannot blame iran for doing precisely what the USSR and USA did for 50 years, building bigger, faster, more powerful weapons in response to a growing threat. How many nations has Israel attacked? Syria, Lebanon, Iraq, Yemen, Egypt, Jordan, plus, repeated incursions into Palestine, and not to mention attacking a US warship on purpose, then lying about it. Israel is the biggest bully with the most threatening posture in the region. How many wars of aggression or attacks on sovereign nations has it accomplished in just the last 10 years?

4. very interesting
I kind of recall similar articles designed to tell the US people that we were in imminent danger. Except before, it was iraq, and the things at risk were US bases in saudi and Israel.

Last I checked, Israel does not pay taxes to the US, nor are they a commonwealth, territory, or any such thing. In otherwords, Israel is not the US.

Obviously, Israel has a right to defend itself, but, they have their own armed forces. They create problems with their neighbors, they threaten their own peace, let them fight their own battles.

This is not a reason to go to war.

6. It seem Iran has a variety of medium-long range missiles available to them...
From the article:

Iran is known to possess a medium-range ballistic missile known as the Shahab-3, which means "shooting star" in Farsi, with a range of at least 1,300 kilometers (800 miles). In 2005, Iranian officials said they had improved the range of the Shahab-3 to 2,000 kilometers (1,200 miles), equal to the new missile announced Tuesday.

Najjar did not elaborate about the differences between the Ashoura missile and the Shahab-3 missile.

In September during a military parade, Iran introduced the Ghadr missile, which has a range of 1,800 kilometers (1,119 miles).

Experts also believe Iran is developing the Shahab-4 missile, thought to have a range between 2,000 and 3,000 kilometers (1,200-1,900 miles), that would enable it to hit much of Europe.
