NEW YORK (AP) - The daughter of former U.S. President John F. Kennedy turned 50 on Tuesday, and America's retiree association plans to honor her for a lifetime of public service.

Caroline Kennedy also will be featured on the upcoming cover of AARP The Magazine for the January/February issue, on newsstands in December.

1. Yikes -- I'm turning 50 next year ... will I be getting my AARP card?
I had a Caroline Kennedy doll when I was a little girl ... Yep, you're right -- time is zooming by ...

4. Mine too. I sometimes send them back and remind them of their support of the last
Medicare legislation that is screwing seniors. The main reason is that I don't feel like supporting a lobby effort aimed at benefiting seniors at the risk of hurting younger people. Those younger than me have it hard enough.

5. I turned in October
If I got one, my husband had the decency to throw it in the trash. :)

I loved Caroline too, I remember her riding Macaroni, running to see her Dad when he got off a plane or helicopter. They really had a way of making all of us feel like we were important.

9. They missed mine by one day!
In August. It didn't show up on my birthday, but there it was, the very next day. Be forewarned.

6. Gawd, that makes me feel old
It was just yesterday I was put out because Caroline - who is 4 years younger than I - had a pony and I didn't. Hey, I was 8, I didn't quite get the economic differences that made it possible for her to have a pony all I knew was it just wasn't fair (though my family was happily middle class and I had nothing to complain about, I just didn't know it then).

8. It is hard for me not to think of her as a rebel teenager
Her and John being rebellious as reported by the tabloids as Jackie was trying to remake her life as Jackie O.

Now on AARP's cover. Jeeze.

10. And we believe what the tabloids tell us?
Actually from everything I have read they were well reared, normal teenagers. I have NEVER heard one problem with Caroline.

The best thing Jackie O could have done was what she did. Looked for security and safety. She found it.. and like everyone...our lives have happiness....our lives have sadness....and we just get to keep on goin' on

Jackie was a class act. In my opinion she was our queen. I have every book that was ever written about Jackie Kennedy. I have many books that have been out of print for years.

It's a pleasure to have her on the cover of anything!

13. Being a rebel in the 60s/early 70s wasn't a bad thing
In fact I remember admiring what she was doing, being a normal teenager with long flower child messy hair and not doing the debutant thing expected of someone of her position.

12. Happy Birthday to us both!
She is exactly one year older (oops, I gave my age away).

I'm kind of depressed - I feel like I'm 25!

15. I turned 50 in December 2004

And AARP sent me all their crap within a week of my birthday!

I would never consider joining them--they're just a big insurance lobby and beholden--like everyone else--to the almighty dollar far more than their senior constituents.

As for Caroline, she's dealt admirably with all her family tragedies. If I were her, it would have been John Jr's death that broke me apart more than any of the others. Those two were always close, drawing comfort from each other during the worst of crises.

And John's b'day was the end of November as well--how horrible to have your father's assasination anniversary overshadow your birthdays all your life.

So hurray for Caroline. Boo for AARP.

16. I resisted getting one for a few years
but than last year I got one for amusement value - I'm 54 and have a 5 year old daughter - it was a hoot putting that on their application.
