'Definite' signs of improvement in Iraq: Negroponte
Source: AFP

ARBIL, Iraq (AFP) - There are "definite" signs of improvement in the security situation in Iraq, US Deputy Secretary of State John Negroponte told reporters in Iraq's northern autonomous Kurdish region.

"I saw a definite improvement in the security situation," Negroponte said at a late night news conference Wednesday in the regional capital Arbil, where he arrived earlier in the day at the start of visit to Iraq.

"There is a political process under way in parallel with the security achievements, including on national reconciliation and the oil law," he said after holding talks with regional prime minister Nechirvan Barzani.

"We are very optimistic that the progress that has occurred in security will be matched with political progress," Negroponte said. "We think the political progress that has happened already is significant."

Why is Negroponte in the Kurdish region? Brokering some oil deals?

1. Why does the name Negroponte ring a bell?
Isn't he the one who brought us the "flying nuns" in Honduras?

"There is a political process under way in parallel with the security achievements, including on national reconciliation and the oil law," he said after holding talks with regional prime minister Nechirvan Barzani.

Notice the emphasis on the oil law. The sole priority in Iraq. The oil law.

3. Acording to NPR
the progress they are touting is a mixed bag, very uneven from neighborhood to neighborhood, and of minimal significance in the best of cases. Article here.

4. why....it's like a trip down an Indiana market!
If it's so nice, how about you prove it to us. Buy a home in Iraq and live there at least 2 months a year. At least.

Prove it.

5. I want
some of the shit this guy is smoking!

Did I just dream something about the Turks killing the Kurds and vise versa?

Did I dream that the Kurds told Maliki to go fuck himselkf on the oil deal?

I must be going nuts because Negroponte would not lie to us.

Let's take a look at John Negroponte. I have a wonderful link for you. It's a lot of reading but it explains one hell of a lot about Negroponte.

Teaser: John Negroponte was appointed by Bush as ambassador to Honduras and served from 1981-1985 and oversaw the growth in military aid to Honduras from $4 million to $77.4 million a year. According to the New York Times, Negroponte was responsible for "carrying out the covert strategy of the Reagan administration to crush the Sanddinistas government in Nicaragua." Critics say that during his ambassadorship, human rights violations in Honduras became systemic.

This Negroponte is NOT a good man. Do not believe anything this guy says.
