Bush presses Congress on spending bill

By DEB RIECHMANN, Associated Press Writer 5 minutes ago

WASHINGTON - President Bush has a full slate of assignments for Congress when it returns from its Thanksgiving recess next week — everything from approving government spending bills to passing intelligence legislation to reforming the tax code.

"Members are coming back to a lot of unfinished business," Bush said Saturday in his weekly radio address. "The clock will be ticking, because they have only a few weeks to get their work done before leaving again for Christmas."

Bush has been pushing Congress to approve war funding and finish its debate over rules for government eavesdropping within the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act.

He also wants lawmakers to pass annual government spending bills — but not in "one monstrous piece of legislation" filled with money for special interests. And he wants Congress to send him legislation that keeps middle-class Americans from being hit by the alternative minimum tax.

1. Why doesn't the MSM come back with the fact that he has vetoed
a bill that would give the funding, and that the republicans in congress are blocking this bill that will give the funding. They just seem to keep on keeping on about the Democrats not passing a bill.

2. "Special interests" like kids needing health insurance or elderly without heat
The Dems have caved again and again to get him a bill that he will sign, cutting and stripping programs that help real people in need, and the SOB still won't sign it, and the Repukes make sure his vetoes have just enough votes to stand. He will veto anything that's coming; the only way he can yet seek to destroy the social safety net is through this tactic - and that's always been an overriding goal of his administration, and this is what he has left to achieve it.

4. so why don't the Dems pass clean spending bills that fund the things Americans need funded

The bills would cost a bit more than bush wants but if they take all pork out then it becomes clear that the Dems are passing clean bills and bush is the obstructionist. As long as we allow bills with pork to get voted on, bush wins.
