Giuliani steps down from investment firm
Source: CNN/AP

DES MOINES, Iowa (AP) — Republican presidential hopeful Rudy Giuliani has stepped down as head of his consulting firm, Giuliani Partners, after months of refusing to disclose the firm's clients or the role he played.

Giuliani's spokeswoman, Sunny Mindel, says the former New York City mayor has been replaced as chairman by Peter Powers, a longtime friend and former aide.

The firm was started when Giuliani left City Hall. It earned him around $4 million last year. The spokeswoman did not say whether he would retain his interest in the company.

While insisting the firm's client list was confidential, Giuliani has noted the media have named a number of his clients.

Published reports have identified one client as the Persian Gulf country of Qatar, which was accused of sheltering suspected September 11 mastermind Khalid Sheikh Mohammed, although that country today it is a U.S. ally.

1. Client lists should be confidential.
Rudy's still a shitsack, but I applaud him for keeping his client list confidential.

3. Fine, but maybe those who aspire to be, or have been, public servants
shouldn't work for consulting companies, then.

The fact that Rudi has a long, secret, list of powerful friends and perhaps people he owes favors to doesn't really recommend him to be a good public servant.

Other marks against him include that he is an arrogant, fascist-loving, viscious spoiled little prick.

IMO.

6. I agree with you on all your points - public servants should not have secret lists
of powerful friends and corporate influencers.

It is scary to think that a president might have a long, secret list of people whom he/she owes favor, or who might even owe favors to the president.

And, of course, everything else you said about Rudy is spot on. :7

2. I don't think the Qatar thing is a big deal--we have a huge military base there.
That's where much of Iraq and Afghanistan planning and support takes place. Sort of waters down the "terrorist harbor" accusation. However, the rest of the client list might be damning...

4. So the country that harbored the 9/11 mastermind is no big deal?

I personally find that extremely insulting. And I'm betting a lot of other people do as well.

I suppose you agreed with Bush when he said he wasn't concerned with bin Laden.

5. Hunh? WTF? I said it's not a big deal for Rudy IN LIGHT OF THE FACT that BushCo

decided to use Qatar as an ally and base of operations--my Air Force husband spent two summers there. If our national policy is that Qatar is our friend, than you have our government to blame--NOT me. Get a fucking grip before you start hurling insults.
