Fred Thompson doubts Iran nuke report

GREER, S.C. — Republican presidential candidate Fred Thompson said Tuesday he's skeptical of a new report that Iran halted its nuclear weapons program four years ago and questioned the United States' ability to gather intelligence.

"I hope that they are accurate with this assessment, but right now, I don't have the confidence in our own intelligence capabilities to make that assessment," the former Tennessee senator said after speaking to dozens of supporters at a gun shop in this early voting state. "One thing that crosses my mind is that this is information that the Iranians have put out, that they want us to kind of relax a little bit."

The new national intelligence estimate found that Iran stopped its development of a nuclear bomb in the fall of 2003, largely because of international scrutiny and pressure. The finding is in stark contrast to the comparable intelligence estimate two years ago, when U.S. agencies believed Tehran was determined to develop a nuclear weapons capability.

Thompson's remarks seemed to echo President Bush, who said Iran remained dangerous and the report should be a warning sign that the nation had a weapons program.

8. Jesus, people! This is the scariest development I've seen in a long time!
If the security agencies go public in an attempt to safeguard the American people from these blood-thirsty maniacs on the right, they publicly dismiss the agencies as not reliable! This is beyond the pale! What is the next step, when you have determined that your intelligence agencies cannot be trusted? That is a serious question. What is the next thing that is done?

They would much rather make shit up to help them steal even more of our money.

Thanks to the millions of idiot republican voters in this country, lying has been very successful for the republican war profiteers.
