Iraq's Sadr uses lull to rebuild Army

Away from public view, however, Sadr's top aides say the anti-American cleric is anything but idle. Instead, he is orchestrating a revival among his army of loyalists entrenched in Baghdad and Shiite enclaves to the south – from the religious centers of Karbala and Najaf to the economic hub of Basra. What is in the making, they say, is a better-trained and leaner force free of rogue elements accused of atrocities and crimes during the height of the sectarian war last year.

So when the "surge" ends up empowering the a cleric who hates the U.S. Will the right wing still call it a great success?

he's met with some of Sadr's deputies. I wouldn't be surprised if they had a deal going on, or payments, or some kind of agreement to keep the violence down for now--until the Dem Pres comes along and withdraws troops, at least.

You don't suppose any of the missing weapons and money have been rat-holed away by Sadr (and whoever else) for the Main Event, which will start when the Crusaders leave?
