Reid Rejects Notion That GOP Is Winning Hill Battles
Source: CBS/Politico

If this is what winning looks like, then Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid wants no part of it.

Tired of Republican crowing about winning on Iraq funding, the budget battle and the energy bill, Reid (D-Nev.) shot back on Tuesday afternoon.

Indeed, Republicans have gotten their way in the battle over spending, have forced Democrats to jettison rollbacks of tax breaks for oil companies, and have beaten back attempts to pay for expanded children's health care programs with a tobacco tax increase. Even though they're in the minority, the GOP, backed by President Bush, has used the filibuster to block Democratic priorities over and over this fall.

"Who's winning?" Reid asked a group of reporters. "Big oil, big tobacco. ... Al Qaeda has regrouped and is able to fight a civil war in Iraq. ... The American people are losing."

Yes, Senator, the people are losing. And you are the person leading the charge for the people losing.

Sure, Senator, you can say you are not losing because it sure appears as if you are quarterbacking for the GOP team.

1. Show passion and a willingness to fight and the people will back you.

Fold up like a two dollar pup tent every time the Pukes dare you and the Dem base is bound to get pissed.

It's not losing the fight that's the problem the unwillingness to fight for what is right that's the problem.

3. Fight as hard as you can and lose; people will stick with you.
If you quit without a fight;people will abandon you. IMHO.

12. Exactly
I wonder if we could get some kind of people-driven move going to replace Reid and Pelosi with a couple of fighters. My preference would be Russ Feingold for Senate Leader, and I can think of 8 or 10 House members who would be much better than the too polite and slow thinking/acting Pelosi.

6. I know who's losing - kids without health care, troops in harm's way, seniors without heat
Plenty of blame to go around, and I am frankly surprised at how unbelievably loyal the Repukes have remained to Herr Bush with their butts on the line next year. The GOP is a rubber stamp for Bush like the Reichstag was for you-know-who.

That said, it's not like the Dems have set the world on fire with their fantastic strategies.

9. Uh, Mr. Reid?
SCHIP? Wyden's and Dodd's holds, which you ignored, and Coburn's hold, which you honored? Any guesses as to which party Wyden and Dodd belong to, and which party Coburn belongs to? It's kind of easy to see why some people think that Republicans are winning.

because if he is right, the grassroots of the Democratic Party have an ever bigger problem on their hands than they were thinking.

21. Last night on Countdown Dodd said that Reid was only following procedure.
He said Senate rules forced him to put the bill with immunity forward first.

11. Instead of stopping funding
why dont the democrats try just reducing it instead.
It shows they will support the troops but not support the war and it forces the presidents hand to withdraw some of them if he cant pay for it.

15. Harry Reid even lies like a Bushie. NOT a good sign.
"I am bleeding, which makes me the winner of the fight."

"I am dying of starvation, which means my belly is full and I can eat no more."

"I am running away, which means I am the bravest of all."
