U.S. angered over Turkish attack in Iraq
Source: MSNBC

U.S. military commanders in Iraq didn't know Turkey was sending warplanes into northern Iraq until the planes had already crossed the border, The Associated Press has learned.

Americans have been providing Turkey with intelligence to go after Kurdish rebels in northern Iraq, and a "coordination center" has been set up in Ankara so Turks, Iraqis and Americans can share information, two officials said Tuesday.

But commanders and diplomats in Baghdad were angered when they were told of Sunday's attack after it was already under way, defense and diplomatic officials said in Washington and Baghdad.

They spoke on condition of anonymity because they were not authorized to speak on the record.

Hah! Yesterday I swear I heard they were spinning it as the U.S. gave approval. No wonder Condi was there today! Wonder if she was wearing her stompin' boots?

3. Next time Turkey better warn the US, or patrolling US aircraft could think they're under attack.
Don't want an incident where a US warplane shoots down a warplane from a NATO ally because nobody warned the pilot a bunch of warplanes were rolling in from the north.

8. An accident of that nature could be very, very bad.
According to my Turkish roommate and her friends, the U.S. isn't popular in Turkey.

An accidental shoot-down wouldn't go over very well. I'm sure that many would regard it as an accident on purpose.

What a mess.

6. What a bunch of crap.
The US has satellites focused all over the ME.

There is just no way the Turks would have risked those planes without prior approval.

But then again, the N Koreans sneaked the USS Pueblo all the way around the Korean peninsula and up the river to Pyongyang right under our noses.

13. So... Turkey is probably angry at america for invading Iraq
in the first place and causing all of the instability in the region. So america should just STFU. IMHO
