International Herald TribAustralia's most populous state lifted a ban Wednesday on a popular Chinese-made children's toy that had been pulled from shelves because it contained a chemical that converts into a "date-rape" drug when eaten.
Worldwide recalls were declared for millions of the toys, known as Bindeez in Australia and Aqua Dots in the United States, after scientists last month found the products were coated with a chemical that turns into the so-called date-rape drug gamma hydroxy butyrate when ingested.

Officials in New South Wales state agreed Wednesday to lift a temporary ban on the sale of Bindeez after receiving assurances from Moose Enterprise that the toys would no longer contain 1,4-butendiol.
The state's Minister for Fair Trading Linda Burney said the government would "work closely with Moose Enterprise to ensure the new product is free of any contamination."
