Turk Iraq raids 'killed hundreds'
Source: BBC

Turkish forces have killed hundreds of Kurdish rebels and struck more than 200 targets in northern Iraq in the past 10 days, the Turkish military has said.

Up to 175 rebels were killed on 16 December alone, the military statement added. More cross-border air raids were reported on Tuesday.

There has been no word on casualty figures from the Iraqi authorities.

Turkey blames rebels from the Kurdistan Workers' Party (PKK) for launching attacks on Turkey from bases in Iraq.

...

The military said the casualty figures did not include rebels hit in hideouts and caves, adding that "many" wounded fighters were taken to hospitals in several cities in northern Iraq.

3. I guess the Kurds aren't our friends anymore.
After 7 years of Bush, the only "friends" we have are Saudi Arabia and Israel.

4. Turkey is a friend too, remember they are in NATO
look at their military hardware, almost all of it is US manufactured. The turks have shown a lot of restraint in dealing with the pkk and their population has had enough and has been calling for action. This was entirely predictable as the US didn't want to destabilize the one relatively peaceful area of Iraq by dealing with the problems.

5. The Turks care a lot more about getting in the EU than the USA.
They are our friends only as much as they can exploit us. If you recall, we were not allowed access over Turkish land/air space for the invasion of Iraq.

7. Bush could have prevented this
All he had to do was get the Kurds to stop funding and supplying the PKK, and cracking down on the PKK like he said he would do.

Turkey showed a lot of patience over the last 3 years while waiting for Bush to live up to his promise of intervening.
