You may remember that last Friday I announced a $5,000 challenge by DUer brooklynite to match donations to America's Second Harvest -- The Nation's Food Bank Network. Today I am excited to announce that we reached the goal -- and then blew past it by another 50%! In the last seven days, DUers donated a total of $7,732!

That $7,732 is in addition to the $5,888 that our members had already donated last week. So right now the current total donated by more than 200 DU members to help feed America's Hungry is $13,620! If you add in the $5,000 match pledged by brooklynite, then our total donation is $18,620! Great job, DUers!

I gave a donation to Northwest Harvest, a non-profit service org that provides food and related services throughout Washington state. I am glad there was so much support for Second Harvest, but I think it is important to help the local community first.
