Iraq vet arrested on charges of attempted murder
Source: TimesRecord

BRUNSWICK — A U.S. Navy medical corpsman recently returned from combat duty in Iraq awaits arraignment in Cumberland County Jail today on charges of attempted murder. Police deployed a Taser on Thursday when they discovered Victor Perez, 24, chasing his wife with a butcher knife, according to Brunswick police Lt. Shawn O'Leary.

Just before 2 p.m. Thursday, Brunswick police responded to 14 Independence Drive, an area of Brunswick Naval Air Station housing, after a woman called 911 to report that her husband was chasing her with a butcher knife and she was hiding in the car. She was also concerned about her two small children, who remained in the house.

As police arrived, Victor Perez, 24, smashed the driver's side window of the car in an attempt to reach his wife. The four responding officers ordered Perez to drop the knife and ordered the woman to run toward them, said O'Leary, who was on the scene. However, when Perez began to follow her and ran toward the officers, they all aimed their weapons at Perez and he stopped 12 to 15 feet from them.

"She had already run past us and we told him, 'Drop the knife,'" O'Leary said today. "Being that he had stopped, I had an officer at my side, Nehemiah Natress, who I knew was armed with a Taser. I instructed him to put his gun away (and) to grab the Taser. ... It was not even seconds ... (Perez) started to walk toward us, and we were at a point where deadly force was imminent. Officer Natress deployed his Taser and struck the individual. That Taser saved (Perez's) life."

1. Unfortunately
this will not be an isolated incident. With many soldiers returning from Iraq and Afghanistan with PTSD, there is little doubt that this scene will be repeated across the country.
The Bush administration has chosen to neglect these troops once they have served their purpose and not give them the care they deserve when they return home. It seems that every war since WWII, the U.S. government has failed to care for their troops after they have survived horrendous battle. Just because there may be no scars on the outside, does not mean that there are no terrible wounds on the inside.

I have some concern, as being a postal worker, I know that many Iraqi vets will be hired by the post office, as they are given extra points on the hiring exam. We have had our share of Vietnam Vets suffering from PTSD- can't wait for this new batch of disturbed vets to join our workforce. :sarcasm:

5. What about all the non-vet postal workers?
Seems to be a history there.

Vets are not a bunch of crazy loons.

7. true, tabasco and I sincerely apologize if I have offended you
it just seems with my postal experiences, we have had many problems with vets and the stress that they endured during their war experiences. And I worry about this next batch as I don't think that they're getting the help that they need. A lot of it is perhaps just the way that postal management treats us- it is a very dysfunctional place at times.

3. Isn't war fun?
It's a gift that just keeps on giving! I can't imagine why some people don't like it. It just does so much for the economy and for the middle and lower classes, and dang but it livens up the Saturday nights around town for years and years.

9. You Know.......
I have tried my best to find a source for this information that you have posted....

(58% of the population was against the Revolutionary war)

May I ask where this figure came from, and who was doing polls during this period in American history?

Or is this simply just a snarky post, and I missed the humor?
