Clinton leads in Iowa; Huckabee, Romney even: Poll
Source: Reuters

DES MOINES, Iowa (Reuters) - Democrat Hillary Clinton holds a narrow lead in Iowa four days before the state opens the presidential nominating race, while Republicans Mike Huckabee and Mitt Romney are virtually tied, according to a Reuters/C-Span/Zogby poll released on Sunday.

Clinton, a New York senator, led Sen. Barack Obama of Illinois 31 percent to 27 percent, with former North Carolina Sen. John Edwards a close third at 24 percent and no other Democratic contender registering in double-digits.

Huckabee, a former Arkansas governor, held a statistically insignificant one-point edge over former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney, 29 percent to 28 percent. Arizona Sen. John McCain was a distant third with 11 percent.

Three Republicans, former Tennessee Sen. Fred Thompson, former New York Mayor Rudy Giuliani and Texas Rep. Ron Paul, registered 8 percent in the poll.

...

Clinton, Obama and Edwards have battled for the Democratic lead for months in Iowa, where a win can generate huge momentum for later contests. The new poll showed Clinton, who would be the first woman in the White House, narrowly leading Obama among women voters and ahead among older voters, who are the most likely to participate.

...

The poll found Clinton's supporters were the most dedicated, with 76 percent saying their support was "very" strong, compared to 65 percent for Edwards and 56 percent for Obama.

8. I'll say it till I'm blue in the face... SHE simply is not electable in the General
So if people want to waste their time nominating her and in doing so losing the only shot we had at the WH well maybe after the next 4 or 8 years there won't be a United States left....

10. Its not Prognostication its reality and logic..
1. She is as hated among the Right and George W. Bush is on the left.

2. She will never gain the support of any moderate because the Republican machine will crucify her.

3. She is the most divisive candidate among all the Democrats.

4. There is marital tension between this potential President and her mate.. i.e., can Bill keep it in his pants for her term? I don't think so.

5. Her nomination will enflame the Right and cause and uprising of evangelicals the likes of which we have never seen once this group is tweaked it will inevitably drive the General election.

13. Your logic is flawed.
1. She is as hated among the Right and George W. Bush is on the left.

So. George won, (supposedly), as much as we hated him, anyway. Not a logically valid point.

2. She will never gain the support of any moderate because the Republican machine will crucify her.

The man behind the curtain has been discovered. The Republican machine has lost it's momentum.

3. She is the most divisive candidate among all the Democrats.

So says one of the writhing blobs in the machine, Rush Limbaugh. I don't really listen to him, or give much credence to what he says.

4. There is marital tension between this potential President and her mate.. i.e., can Bill keep it in his pants for her term? I don't think so.

Opinion. Not logic. They appear to be doing just fine.

5. Her nomination will enflame the Right and cause and uprising of evangelicals the likes of which we have never seen once this group is tweaked it will inevitably drive the General election.

I know a lot of Evangelicals who aren't real happy with the way things have turned out over the last 8 years. They are not as solid a block as they once were. They've shot their wad. I think many will stay home. (My opinion.) Besides, are you really THAT afraid of them?

As I said before - time will tell. It always does.

15. I guess I must explain..
1. Hated as in now like we hate George Bush now after his actions not before he was elected..
in other words Hillary is as hated now as Bush is now...

How can she start on that foot? Zogby has a national poll ( http://www.zogby.com/news/ReadNews.dbm?ID=1376) that says 50 percent will not vote for her under any circumstance that means she cannot possibly win in the national election. So this is very logical and very balanced take off your Clinton Blinders.

2. The Republican machine is spinning to life again... read the headlines Iraq is not the issue. The economy may not slump fast enough.... Besides if the Repub machine is wavering as you claim then why throw Kerosene on it by nominating Hillary... Rather let it smolder out with a nominee like Edwards or Obama.

3. Who cares what any of the talking heads say... Look at it logically she spews a message of hate.. her campaign is full of dirty tricks when it comes to the other Democrats. She is divisive and negative.

4. Give me a break... He is a philanderer sure she forgave him publically but what does that say really... Do you really think she loves him... Again take the blinders off this is purely political and he will have his trysts and he will get caught again and it will be a media circus and a GOP present...What will she say next time?

5. Again with the blinders... The Evangelicals are programmed to hate anything Clinton... They have been told that a Clinton in the WH means they will lose their beloved Jesus and more a Clinton means more Terra, Terra, Terra,... Do not count them out in fact listen to Good Ol' Bill himself regarding the power of the Evengelical right he said if the Republicans would cowtow more to the far right religious base it would become a tsunami.

Now how about doing something about this and voting for Obama or Edwards... They do not bring the same bagage as Hillary and with one of them we could win the WH in 08...

16. Hillary
1:There are some democrats who hate Bush who will not vote for her.

2:Some Independents who would vote for Edwards or Obama would not support her.

3:Unlike Edwards or Obama she would get no crossover Republican votes.

Let's be clear Conservate Republican voters will never vote for a Democrat however more Moderate
republican voters who may be for lower takes and against Gay marriage but who don't support the
war In Iraq and don't like the shredding of Civil rights could support a Democrat who they
thought would be a change.Edwards, and Obama are seen as more believing what they say than she Is.

Both Mccain and Saint Rudy have the poential to get crossover democrats to support them over Hillary. You may not like this but It Is true.

Hillary as the nominee would depress activists. You here more and more how the Republicans are depressed over their field. This could be a story If she Is the nominee.

The Clinton style of vaguness being on both sides of the Issues won't work as It did In 1992.

Not only that but a Hillary nomination opens up the door to a progressive Anti War Candiate.
Bloomberg could very well convince some that Is him.He has the money
