Britain's 'Dr. Death' Found Hanged in Prison

LONDON (Reuters) - Britain's worst mass murderer Harold Shipman -- a family doctor who killed hundreds of his patients- - hanged himself in his prison cell Tuesday.

Shipman, whose suicide was immediately condemned by victims' relatives as a final act of cowardice, was nicknamed ``Dr. Death'' after a horrific, 23-year-long killing spree in which he murdered at least 215 of his patients.


``He was found dead, hanging in his cell,'' a prison service spokesman told Reuters. He said Shipman had used bed sheets tied to his cell bars to make a noose.

Shipman was convicted in 2000 of murdering 15 of his patients and sentenced to life in prison. An inquiry later ruled he had murdered at least 215 patients with heroin injections, making him Britain's - and one of the world's - most prolific serial killer.

must feel extremely ripped off.

he would be on a suicide watch, but no. We may not have the death penalty ( thank God ), but we do make it easy to DIY in our prisons, and as you say cheat the victims families.

But no, he's dead so now the fucking government has launched an immediate inquiry that will cost thousands if not millions of pounds, a post mortem to make sure he's actually dead.

Good fucking riddance.

I'm seriously disillusioned with my country at the moment.

If we had a real Government, and not Free Market Tony it would seem better (but probably still disillusioned ).

If they would simply off themselves early on in their imprisonment, it would be easier and cheaper for the rest of us.

And what a great example to other would-be murderers.

and the FBI cleared him of all charges regarding the 9/11 tragedy.

But hey, he's french and a muslim so let's execute him anyway.

So does that mean anything?

It's outrageious that he got away with this as long as he did.

It shows you how little valued life is.
