Rosenthal withdraws from DA race
Source: KHOU Houston (CBS affiliate)

06:46 PM CST on Wednesday, January 2, 2008

By Brad Woodard / 11 News

Embattled District Attorney Chuck Rosenthal ended his re-election bid, just minutes before the filing deadline Wednesday night. In a one-line letter to Harris County Republican Party Chairman Jared Woodfill, Rosenthal requested his name be removed from consideration as the GOP nominee for the office.

Just minutes before faxing over his withdraw letter, Rosenthal, who has been embroiled in an e-mail scandal over sometimes-salacious messages he sent to his executive secretary, a former assistant DA filed the paperwork to seek the Republican’s nomination for the county’s top law enforcement post.

...

Prior to today, who would have thought a few simple keystrokes could have such far-reaching ramifications?

Apparently not Harris County District Attorney Chuck Rosenthal, when he used county computers to send intimate emails to his executive secretary.

4. Good riddance to bad rubbish...
He is the most corrupt district attorney in the country and that is the problem. He will remain in office for another year.

He may have committed perjury with regard to denying he had continued having an affair. It wouldn't be the first time he committed perjury. He may have committed obstruction of justice by deleting emails. It wouldn't be the first time he obstructed justice.

There are now rumors the US Attorney has opened an investigation into the matter. Too little, too late if you ask me.

Chuck Rosenthal is one of the good old boys. And he pulls strings. And he has pulled strings for Democrats as well as Republicans. And probably will start using the strings he pulled to save himself.
