Chris Dodd Drops Out of Race
Source: Chris Dodd Campaign

Thank You.

I count the past year of campaigning for the presidency as one of the most rewarding in a career of public service.

Unfortunately, I am withdrawing from that campaign tonight.

But there is no reason to hang our heads this evening -- only the opportunity to look towards a continuation of the work we started last January: ending the Iraq War, restoring the Constitution, and putting a Democrat in the White House.

I know a lot of you came to this email list through a shared desire to return our nation to one that respects the rule of law, and I want to make one thing clear to all of you:

The fight to restore the Constitution and stop retroactive immunity does not end with my Presidential campaign. FISA will come back in a few weeks and my pledge to filibuster ANY bill that includes retroactive immunity remains operative.

You've been an invaluable ally in the battle, and I'll need you to stick by my side despite tonight's caucus results.

So, one more time, thank you for all of your efforts throughout the course of this entire Presidential campaign.

We made a real difference in shaping the debate, and we'll continue to do so in the coming days, weeks and years.

I'll never forget you, and what we've fought for, together, over the past year.

Chris Dodd

Receiving only 1%, this was inevitible.

Congrats to Senator Obama, and all who voted for him.
But I have to wonder; How much Kucinich asking his supportors
to support Obama, aided in the Senator's victory today?

1. I hope Dodd finds another position, like Majority Leader.
You asked so I'll just say, Kucinich's votes to Obama didn't help a whole lot imo; Obama got the majority of votes on his own and worked for them.

2. I'm no expert on caucuses, ...
and I don't want to take anything away from Obama victory,
but everyone who is an expert , stated that it's not the number
of first place that matters, but the number of second place votes.
that puts a candidate over the top.

6. But the results from 20 precincts I checked in with had
only single digits standing for Kucinich TOTAL...less than 10 standing for him across the 20 precincts even in liberal areas.

I know it will bother many on this board, but the support for Kucinich was not there so Obama did it on his own.

Even the Biden and Dodd people seem to go more for Edwards vaulting him to second place. Richardson's people seem to go to Clinton.

4. I agree. And I was surprised DK endorsed him, rather than Edwards.
I bet a lot of DK's supporters were surprised at that, too -- and were not particularly willing to shift their support.

3. Biden too, at least that's what the banner on CNN said.

7. He was my hero last month... seriously
it very well could be that we need him to stay right where he is... I'm not sure CT elects another Dem if he leaves the Senate.

8. NOOOOO. Please leave him in the senate.
Give him a powerful committee and let him raise hell. Who knows if we would keep his seat given that lieberman got elected in Conn.
