Source: All Headline News

Matthew Borghese - AHN News Writer

5. ***Update: Obama and McCain win Hart's Location, NH***
In Hart's Location, Democrat Obama received nine votes, Hillary Rodham Clinton received three and John Edwards received one. Among Republicans, McCain received six, Mike Huckabee received five, Ron Paul received four and Mitt Romney one.

Residents of the two towns traditionally gather at midnight to cast the first votes of the first primary in the nation. State law allows towns of fewer than 100 residents to open polls after midnight and count the ballots once all registered voters have participated.

6. I can't believe mccain is even an option....?
...and then the media has the balls to suggest "age" has something to do with Hillary showing some emotion the other day? Give me a break. mccain actually thinks he's as fit as an 18 year old. I've got news for the fantasyland repug, HE'S 72. OLD!! F*CKING OLD!! I don't want some senile old fart who has 20 years TOPS to live, driving my country into a ditch so he can make the history books. I'd take 100 Obama's and his youth over any single 72 year old geezer. I'm close to his age myself, and he has to be kidding!

8. Republicans in NH are playing dirty again
Edited on Tue Jan-08-08 09:23 AM by Maribelle
But what this vote does prove is that republicans don't want to run against Hillary, proving the mantra hummed by anti-Clintons over the last several months was a lie. There is a massive campaign in NH to get registered republicans to vote for Obama in the primary then vote against the Democrat in the general election.

But what else is new? lol

9. Do you have ANY evidence of this "massive campaign in NH?"
You do realize that only registered independents and Democrats can vote in the Democratic primary, don't you?

10. No registered Independents in New Hampshire.
Edited on Tue Jan-08-08 10:43 AM by Maribelle
There are not "Independents" registered in New Hampshire, as there are in other states such as Florida. “Undeclared” in New Hampshire does not reflect an ideology as it does for "Independents" in other states.

Secondly, the number of registered republicans that have officially registered as "Undeclared" in NH is huge. And in this season, the falloff of Republicans to "Undeclared" is suspiciously noteworthy. Actively moving from Republican to "Undeclared" could be a sign of active political displeasure with the GOP, or could be Republicans who want to thwart Hillary as early as possible. However, since the falloff began before the GOPs candidates have secured their pecking order, the latter has the strongest logic for making a safe assumption. And statistical analysis provides an 80 percent figure of undeclared voters leaning toward one party or another. Only in the southern part of the state do undeclareds lean democratic. Andrew Smith, the director of the University of New Hampshire Survey Center stated: "Most undeclareds are really partisan. This idea that there's a big bloc of people deciding between McCain and Obama, I don't see any evidence for that."

Thirdly, putting safe assumptions aside, the facts are on the ground as clear as boots in Iraq. Did you watch as McCain touted his appeal to undeclareds by singing the Lieberman aria in English?

11. First votes counted in New Hampshire primary
Source: CNN

DIXVILLE NOTCH, New Hampshire (CNN) -- Voters in two New Hampshire hamlets cast their ballots Tuesday just after midnight in the state's first-in-the-nation presidential primary, hours before the rest of the state's polling places open.

The first ballots were cast in Dixville Notch, a hamlet of about 75 near the Canadian border.

People there favored Sen. John McCain in the Republican primary -- he got four votes -- and Sen. Barack Obama in the Democratic contest, who won seven votes.

Obama and McCain also won in midnight voting in Hart's Location, population 42. The two senators hope to see those results duplicated statewide by the time all the votes are cast.

14. Obama SEVEN?
Ok so the sample is pretty tiny thus far but believe it or not it is the start of a poll. I don't see things changing much at all. I love the fact that Richardson has one vote and Hillary none.

I also love to see Huckabee with none thus far.

The H's need to (H)ang it up.

15. Wait a minute.....I thought the rule was that no vote count
was released til the polls closed, because it would influence others who hadn't voted yet.

I suppose they think it is OK to release the vote count, that way they can encourage people to vote for Obama. Damn I guess the rules do change when you want a certain person to win.

20. It's OK to do it if you are a wolf in sheep's clothing in New Hampshire or..,.
if you're republican pretending to be something you're not.

However, should true democrats prevail because of the action, republicans can then scream bloody murder.

Like the screaming window bangers of Miami in 2000 - - republicans can pretend they are anything they want when the need arises.

Jamming telephone lines was only what they got caught at.

18. Okay nothing to see here move along, the countings over.....
Why does a small community not even a cross section of the US get so much attention? The novelty of this has now gotten to the point of a circus side show. Its time to completely overhaul this nations primary/voting systems.
