Bodies of 4 youths found in D.C. home

By SARAH KARUSH, Associated Press Writer 40 minutes ago

WASHINGTON - When Larry Jones noticed a foul odor coming through a vent in his apartment, he chalked it up to dead mice and spoke to his landlord. It wasn't until Wednesday, when U.S. Marshals delivered an eviction notice next door, that Jones learned the real source of the stench: the decomposing bodies of four young people.

Investigators believe the bodies had been there at least two weeks, but it was unclear exactly how and when the victims died, police Chief Cathy Lanier said.

A woman who answered the door was taken into custody for questioning. "She was apparently calm throughout," U.S. Marshals Service spokesman Cole Barnhart said.

Police said it was unclear whether the woman was related to the victims, believed to be girls ranging in age from 5 to 18.

It seems more and more people are slipping through the cracks.

WASHINGTON -- A woman was charged with two counts of murder in connection with the discovery of four decomposing bodies Wednesday in Washington D.C.

Mayor Adrian Fenty will have an update Thursday on the deaths of four young people -- believed by D.C. police to be females -- ranging in age from 5 to 18, Washington FOX affiliate WTTG reported.

It's not clear how or when the victims died, but police said they might have been in the home where they were found for at least two weeks.

4. The system fails once again..
this is what cutting programs like Child Protective Services gets you. They do the best they can with what little resources they have. Apparently none of these children were in school, and the police had contacted CPS at one time regarding what was going on in this household.

The father of two of the girls died of cancer about a year ago, and the mother apparently fell apart. What a tragedy.

6. Fails? Why, it's win-win. Save money, sell more news ads.
Even we saw another ad or two just to read this. Money money money.. and perhaps a touch of sad sarcasm.

7. Yeah well, when I say system..
I mean the system that is supposedly in place to help those who can't help themselves, but I share your cynicism. The media will just sensationalize it, and it will all go away in a couple of days. The city government really looks bad on this, and I have little confidence in Fenty, I'm starting to think he's in way over his head, and he just seems to be interested in getting his cronies jobs. I hope I'm wrong on that.

5. CNN reporting that two people wheeled a dead body down the street in a chair to cash a $300.00 check
and the idiot reporting thought it was funny. Desperate times call for desperate measures and I do not find that funny.

8. I heard the Weekend at Bernie's story on Olbermann
I have to admit that it made me laugh, more because it was NYC (where I grew up), and that's sooooo something that would happen in NYC.
