War Widow Fights To Stay In U.S.
Source: WESH

A local war widow's fight to stay in the United States moved forward on Tuesday.

Dahianna Heard is originally from Venezuela.

When her husband died in Iraq, U.S. officials said she had to return home because the couple had been married for less than two years.

...

Heard fought to stay in the U.S. because her son, Bryan, was born here.

Her attorney said immigration officials reversed a decision requiring her to leave, bringing her one step closer to getting a green card.

2. Well gee..
What a no-brainer this is. How could you expect her to go? It's not like they divorced or something. Stupid government people.

3. Hey, America. Here's one of those families you keep claiming to support.
While you're out protesting gay marriage, here's a war widow being deported.

4. Heartless bastards
Back in WWII, my great uncle married a British girl while stationed in England. He was killed, but the Canadian government paid for his wife to come to Canada after the war.

A little compassion can be pretty fucking simple.

6. I wonder if it would have been the same...
had your great uncle been a U.S. citizen. Canada is in the commonwealth country after all.

But I agree with you. This country is shitting on its veterans.

8. During and After WWII Congress passed laws for such situations.
Hollywood even made a comedy about it (Cary Grant played the French spouse of an American WAC Officer in "I was a male war-bride"). http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0041498/

In the movie the couple goes to the Embassy and the Ambassador reads the Statute and any spouse of an American serving in the Military could go to the US. I suspect the Statute has been repealed or let to expire. In Korea and Vietnam the Soldiers were NOT left overseas long enough to meet any women let along marry any. During Peacetime it was alleged such wives were only marrying Americans to get into the US, but even today you hear of Americans marrying citizens of countries our troops are in AND such wives coming to the US to live. Thus while I suspect the law has changed, and it was easier during and after WWII for such spouses to move to the US, it is NOT as easy today as during WWII.

5. Truth is
Military personnel are expendable. They are expendable objects of war and are non-persons. Our government including the Veteran's administration treats them and their family as well. I support the Veterans for their sacrifice. When will we learn that stone and marble monuments mean nothing when so many veterans and their families are in need.

7. He wasn't military for a start.
I don't have much sympathy for her as he was a contractor. He should have at least waited until she had her green card before participating in the illegal occupation. http://www.wesh.com/news/10059894/detail.html
