WGA drops reality demands

STRIKE ZONE: LATEST NEWS AND UPDATES

WGA demands for reality TV and animation jurisdiction are officially off the table.

The WGA said so Tuesday in confirming its informal talks with studio chiefs, aimed at getting stalled contract negotiations back on track. Scribes may or may not end up accepting contract terms similar to the DGA's, but the move follows the directors' lead by first meeting informally with studio executives under the cover of a press blackout.

I so hope this means the strike will be over soon.

1. Oh, me too.
Work has officially dried up for my husband (Local 80 grip), but the bills keep on coming...

5. I appreciate that.
We're trying to take the good with the bad... at least we get to hang out with each other more, and we can get some work done on our house! :)

3. If it's any comfort
I have two friends in the WGA and they both think the strike will be over shortly.

4. You have my sympathies as well.
I just hope the SAG does not repeat this whole thing in a few months when their contract expires and they are up for negotiation.

7. I'm hoping that as well.
I'm thinking that with the DGA deal, and the willingness to negotiate on the part of both the producers and the WGA, that we might be able to avoid a SAG strike.

10. Glad you're hanging in there!

It's nice to hear about your positive attitude. I think the strike will be over shortly - - I sort of figured all along that the prospect of no real Oscar telecast might jumpstart things. The DGA deal helped, too. There won't be a SAG strike with two settlements in place from the DGA and WGA.

9. That Was Kind Of Anticipated
It always looked like that was one of those demands one side puts in so that it can be tossed out "in exchange" for something else tossed out.

Part of the game, and so long as there's a quid pro quo on the producers' side, it's progress.
