Romney: 'I'm not concerned about voters'
Source: CNN

<snip>

The statement came during a back and forth with moderator Tim Russert, after Romney was asked how much of his own money he has donated to his presidential campaign.

"We'll report that on the 31st of January, as required by law, and probably not a minute earlier. You'll just have to wait, Tim," Romney said.

"But why not tell the voters of Florida and across the country how much of your own wealth you're spending, so they can make a judgment and factor that into their own decision?" Russert responded.

"Well, I'm not concerned about the voters," Romney replied. "I'm much more concerned about the other guys on this stage. And we have some competitive information that we make sure that we use for our own benefit.

"But I can tell you this: I've raised more money than any other Republican in this race — raised more," he added. "Friends of mine have come together, people I knew in high school and helped raised money for me."

6. read eariler in campaign that Jeb Bush was backing Mittens too
Seems damned unlikely all the money comes from Mormons. More likely, all the money comes from those in power behind the puppet George.

8. Don't downplay either group. There is considerable wealth
in the Mormon Church, especially with a mandatory 10% tithe... church leaders in Utah know what each member there is making. They have ways of finding out. But they are going to do everything they can to keep their participation in Mitten's campaign as quiet as possible so as not to scare off the voters.

I think finding out that the Bushes are behind Mittens would scare off even more voters.

12. I live in the West where the Mormon Church is BIG. I know about their $$
But I do not fear the Mormon Church (and yeah, I know a lot about their history, it isn't pretty" nearly as much as I fear the continued influence of BFEE and those they represent. I want THOSE animals OUT of power.

18. Thumbsup; good to know. The BFEE is truly evil and wields more
power. I'd hate to see hard core mormonism make any gains as well. Been around Mormons, read their history and books about them; dated a fallen mormon who then went back and finally left it for good.

5. There are holes in them mittens.
Poor Mitt has a problem holding onto money
and his campaign is the worst (or best) example.
Mitt is a one over-preening excuse of a pathetic manager.

I'd love to see him go down in flames. Otherwise, it will just prove that only the super rich have a chance at winning office.

17. I haven't read the transcript, but I would be willing to bet
Timmy didn't follow up and challenge him on that remark.

Had such an utterance come from the mouth of a Dem, he'd have been all over it, and the talking heads would be having a field day with it this morning.

20. Wow. I almost feel sorry for Romney. Almost.
Edited on Fri Jan-25-08 12:02 PM by Strawman
He's exposing himself as an idiot son as a candidate. What they call the "common touch" is just completely absent from his personality. I just wonder what is motivating this guy to run for president, and I think it is to bring back his dad or win what he felt like his dad deserved back in 1968. There was a good article on him in Hour Detroit magazine, and after reading it, I felt like his admiration for his dad is his only true "political" conviction. The only thing I have ever seen or heard or read about this guy that really seemed sincere and believable is his devotion to his father. By all accounts, that seemed credible, this guy literally worshiped and idolized his dad, unlike another idiot son, George W. Bush, who seems to resent his father.

I'm too young to remember George Romney as a politician, but it is my understanding that he was more of a from-the-hip, genuine person with real convictions, and his penchant to speak his mind got him in trouble. Everything Mitt does politically seems to be guided by the desire to correct his father's mistakes and win what he feels his dad deserved. And he'll do it by any means necessary: by running a dirty negative campaign. There's just something off about the guy. I watched one of his concession speeches (I forget which one) and he sounded like he was about to have a breakdown. He has invested alot more than his fortune in this campaign and it is about to collapse all around him like a house of cards. Watching him in this campaign is like watching someone act out something that is really unhealthy. Romney may be more of a sympathetic figure than George W. Bush, but 8 years of living through someone acting out their unresolved daddy issues is more than enough.
