Groups Urge Probe Of Ashcroft's '00 Bid
Groups Urge Probe Of Ashcroft's '00 Bid

By Walter Pincus
Washington Post Staff Writer
Friday, January 16, 2004; Page A17

Five public interest groups have asked the Justice Department to appoint a special counsel to open a criminal investigation of election law violations allegedly committed by Attorney General John D. Ashcroft's campaign during his unsuccessful 2000 Senate reelection campaign.

In a letter released yesterday, the groups asked Deputy Attorney General James B. Comey Jr. to appoint the special counsel, citing the Federal Election Commission's decision Dec. 12 that Ashcroft's campaign violated election laws by accepting illegal contributions from a committee Ashcroft had established to explore running for president.

more

Under the law, the Spirit of America PAC was allowed to give the Ashcroft 2000 committee $5,000 for the primary and $5,000 for the general election, which it did. The commission found that the Spirit of America PAC far exceeded these limits by illegally transferring to the Ashcroft 2000 committee $110,000 derived from the rental of its donors list.

more

"The evidence outlined in this letter," Bonifaz said, "presents an 'actual conflict of interest' for Attorney General Ashcroft, a conflict which includes a 'financial interest.' "

1. People need to get behind the demand for these investigations,
it's the way to get rid of these criminals. Mr. Law and Order is a corrupt, petty, spiteful, hateful little man who wants to put everyone else in jail and throw away the key. He needs to go, and soon.

You really need to get a hobby.

And you might like to check out this thread - another prime example of Christians being persecuted:

6. Yippee! Another Christian Bashing Thread ....
Argue facts, not faith. Once you stoop to that level, you have lost your argument.

8. He wasn't bashing all Christians, thus the quotation marks. . .
He was bashing those who call themselves Christians but act like anything but.

11. absolutely
christian faith and facts are completely separate things. trying to mix them in argument is futile, and leads only to misunderstandings.

12. no Christian bashing; Ashcroft is not a real Christian
the attitudes he harbors, and the attitudes of those who consider themselves to be "christian" right, are anything but real christianity.

I'm wondering why you jumped to this conclusion without any facts or basis...

13. No one said anything about faith. They are talking about
fake christians who NEVER practice the teachings of Jesus, like Bush, Asscroft, Billy Graham and son, Pat Robertson, Rove, Falwell, etc. Stop playing the false 'Christian bashing' card. It won't work here.

9. Ashcroft's Religion Is An Issue Because...
1. He forces it on his subordinates with mandatory morning prayer meetings in his office.

2. His stated goal is to end the separation of Church and State.

3. From 1 and 2 above, it would appear that he wants to force his religion on everybody else.

14. Ashcroft will be prosecuted after there is a free and fair election
in Florida.

No sooner.

The very thought that one of these criminals will be held legally responsible for their crimes is so close to incredible that it defies comprehension.
