Could Super Tuesday Be Super Chaos? (6 States Reported at 'High Risk' for Vote Machine Malfunctions)
Source: ABC News

Report: Six States, Including N.Y. and N.J., at 'High Risk' for Vote Machine Malfunctions

It's been more than seven long years since the Florida recount that upended the 2000 presidential election, with its mangled punch cards, "hanging chads" and other tabulation problems.

Since then, dozens of states have spent millions of dollars to purchase electronic voting machines and to put in places ways to verify votes. But was all that money worth it?

Problems have persisted in almost every federal election since 2000. Just two weeks ago, Republican primary voters in Horry County, S.C., were turned away from some precincts where paperless electronic machines weren't working.

As voters head to the polls today to participate in the most crowded primary day in history, with the most delegates at stake and a tightening Democratic contest, some are concerned that there could be chaos at the polling booths with malfunctioning machines and disputed results.

Six states, including New York, New Jersey, Georgia, Arkansas, Delaware and Tennessee, are "considered at high risk for having election results affected by machine malfunction or tampering," according to a report by Common Cause and the Verified Voting Foundation, nonprofit groups committed to accountable politics.

2. Computer glitch on elections site fixed
A computer glitch found in the online absentee ballot application process at the Montgomery County Board of Elections Web site was fixed Monday, said board director Steve Harsman.

He said board of elections officials will make an extra effort to contact people whose ballot applications may be inaccurate so they can correct them.

When she attempted to apply for a ballot for the Democratic primary, the glitch caused the box marked "Democrat" to go blank on the application that needs printed out and signed to receive an absentee ballot. Persons listing no party affiliation can only vote on issues, not candidates, in the March 4 primary. Republican ballot applications were unaffected.

Harsman said about 25 online ballot applications had no party designation and another 98 were marked by hand. The board has 6,000 requests for absentee ballots and the board will begin mailing the ballots on Friday.

5. I pressed the placebo button today.
Did I vote? Who the hell knows, but it doesn't really matter anyways in Delaware. We could all write in "Broccoli" and it wouldn't have any impact on the national scene. I pushed the Biden button. Why not, right?

8. Why do we always wait until election day to test the equipment?
We should have a 3 day election so that anyone can overcome the reasons for voter suppression.

10. In my precinct in Minnesota, we voted on post-it notes.
Some of the precincts had printed paper ballots, but we didn't get them. 84 people put their choices on post-it notes (which are lousy ballots, because they stick to anything) put them in the envelope, we counted them and reported on time.

This was my first time caucusing, but I helped run the show. We were alloted more delegates than people who wanted to be one, so anyone who wanted to go to the county/district level is on board. I will be a delegate and I also signed up to be an election judge. Big change from the independant, only mildly interested in politics person I was 8 years ago.
