Media barred from covering Rove speech at prep school

WALLINGFORD, Conn. -- The media have been barred from covering a speech by former presidential adviser Karl Rove to students at a prestigious prep school on Monday.

Mary Verselli, spokeswoman for Choate Rosemary Hall, said Headmaster Edward Shanahan and Rove decided mutually to exclude the media.

The prep school, which is the alma mater of President John F. Kennedy and two-time Democratic presidential nominee Adlai Stevenson, is limiting attendance to students and staff due to space restrictions in the auditorium, she said.

"With all our students attending, we're only going to be able to squeeze in half of the faculty with chairs at the back of the auditorium," Verselli said. "This is a special program, a school event, and we typically don't invite the media to a school event."

"It's our standard way of doing things," Verselli told The Associated Press Sunday.

1. Gotta protect Turdblossom from the great unwashed
Wouldn't want any Middle Class Cooties skittering up his pant legs.

So did anyone ask for a tape or printout of Mr' Big Giant Head's speech? Or is THAT *privileged* as well?

2. The two Americas in action. Inherently traitorous to the Declaration of Independence.
And universal law. I wouldn't take any of Karl Rove's karma for all of the money in the world.

3. They probably don't want the media to be able to report
how few of those chairs are actually filled.

12. Or the demonstrators outside. I thought this appearance had been
canceled? Maybe that was some other prep school.

14. I think the original plan was for him to speak at graduation,
but it was moved up after the initial hue and cry.

4. Pure sensationalism, right here. If you'd take the time to do just a LITTLE bit of research,
you'd find that there's much more to this story than your post implies that there is.

8. I always thought showing Karl Rove's face on tee-vee is obscenity.

9. I'm sure someone from The News (the Choate U newspaper) will be there recording things.
It wouldn't surprise me if something leaked to outside journalists.

BTW, for the longest time, I thought Choate was pronounced "KO-ate", because of the word "inchoate". I was disappointed to find it's pronounced "chote", which is sort of ugly.

11. Now that's irony! The man who used the media so well to lie, cheat, and steal...
...now wants protection from that very instrument.

I say he should take as well as he gave!
