China SFDA: Buyers Must Vet Drug Safety
Source: Chicago Tribune (AP)

China's drug safety agency, commenting on a probe into the recalled drug heparin, said Wednesday it enforces strict controls on chemicals used in pharmaceuticals, but that importing countries are ultimately responsible for ensuring product safety.

The State Food and Drug Administration, in a statement on its Web site, said it was cooperating with a U.S. probe into a factory that makes heparin, a blood-thinning drug by Baxter International that is subject to a massive recall due to adverse patient reactions.

"We attach high importance to this," the agency said in its first comment on the heparin recall. SFDA officials have not responded to repeated inquiries about the case.

But the SFDA said that based on international practice, "safeguarding the legality, safety and quality of raw materials imported for use in pharmaceuticals is the responsibility of the importing country."

Well, we are done, relying on this corporate friendly goverment to 'vet' imports will be a challenge.

1. China, let the buyer beware, or, you got what you paid for
Every time I read one of these nuggets from Factory China, I think about the commentary that used to go with a Rocky and Bullwinkle cartoon, with the guy saying over and over again "I warned you that cheap is cheap and lives are at stake". But noooooooo, did anyone listen?

China has as much respect for human life as people here do for foot fungus.

The U.S. has done the same thing to foreign countries China is now doing to us.

What goes around, comes around.

I never made any such claim.

8. Your observation, and those of others, is telling

Just because we did it in the past doesn't mean it is OK for another country to do it now or for people to die because of it.

Burn your strawman. That's my observation.:puke:

9. Once again you're jumping to conclusions
It might help if you ask what someone means instead of putting words in their mouths.

What I meant is that China learned from the U.S. and is using it themselves.

Once again, I never gave any indication I thought it was okay. Despite everything you want to believe.

10. I want to believe America will say no to the poison China sends us
I want to believe America will reject the products of cheap exploited labor and non-existent regulation and worry about their own society. I want to believe America will reject acceptance of China doing what we did and not be stupid about our children's futures just to save a buck.

What goes around comes around isn't acceptable as a premise to accept a cheapened life.
