13 hurt in bomb attack in Iraqi holy city

KARBALA (Iraq) -- Thirteen people were injured, one seriously, in a bomb blast on Sunday in the holy Shiite city of Karbala in central Iraq, hospital sources said.

The bomb was hidden in a package left on the street in the centre of the city near the Shrine of Abbas, a revered Shi'ite imam, witnesses said.

The attack was the latest on Iraq's Shi'ite majority since the US-led war on Iraq ousted Saddam Hussein in April and came the same day a suicide truck bombing on the US headquarters in Baghdad that killed at least 25.
