Daily U.S. Military Deaths in Iraq - 501 U.S. service members have died

As of Monday, Jan. 19, 501 U.S. service members have died since the beginning of military operations in Iraq (news - web sites), according to the military. snip

Since May 1, when President Bush (news - web sites) declared that major combat operations in Iraq had ended, 363 U.S. soldiers have died — 232 as a result of hostile action and 131 of non-hostile causes, according to an AP analysis of releases from the Defense Department and U.S. Central Command.


Since the start of military operations, 2,497 U.S. service members have been injured as a result of hostile action, according to the Defense Department's figures as of Friday. Non-hostile injured numbered 396.

they are distinguishing "hostile" vs "non-hostile" deaths

just another way to "cook the books" on casualty counts..

3. I've noticed that the media has, in general, stopped with the
sub-group reporting. For a while there, they were just reporting deaths since "Mission Accomplished" but I guess the number got too high. Most seem to now be going with the total. It's so sad and I pray for them all.
