Gov. Bush signs elections bill, runoff again eliminated for 2004

The Associated Press
Posted July 24 2003, 12:10 PM EDT

TALLAHASSEE -- Governor Jeb Bush signed an elections bill Thursday that puts Florida in line to receive millions of federal dollars to update antiquated voting equipment and suspends the state's traditional primary runoff for 2004.

It also sets the 2004 primary election for Aug. 31 --nine weeks prior to the general election.

It is the second consecutive election year that Bush and the Republican-controlled Legislature have suspended the runoff -- which has catapulted many of the state's best known Democratic politicians to office in the past half century. (snip/...)

2. Rule of Law Is Invalid
The rule of law is invalid when the laws are made without direct representation by the public to which they are applied to. As progressives continue to lose a voices in our lawmaking as a result of laws made by one extreme political group the validity of any laws come into question.

Disenfranchisment of entire groups of voters by neoconservative laws will result ultimately in the destruction of American decmocracy.

Clearly this another step in the continued manipulation of the democratic process by a small group of powerful individuals.
