California governor recall election set for Oct. 7
http://sfgate.com/cgi-bin/article.cgi?f=/news/archive/2003/07/24/state1254EDT0091.DTL

Gov. Gray Davis will face a recall election on Oct. 7, the lieutenant governor said Thursday, giving his fellow Democrat less than three months to campaign to keep his job or become only the second governor in the nation ever to be recalled.

The announcement by Lt. Gov. Cruz Bustamante came the morning after the secretary of state certified that the Republican-led drive to recall Davis had collected more than enough valid petition signatures to qualify for the ballot.

State law required Bustamante to set the election date 60 to 80 days from Wednesday's certification

11. no other dem candidate
doesn't the person with the most votes - not a majority - get to take over.

The dems are hoping the democratic vote will not be split up therefore Davis would have all the dem vote (no on the recall). The repukes would then split the vote for those in favor of the recall.

I hate these fucking bastards - how anti democratic is this? 9 months after a legitimate election doing this crap. don't get your way then BUY yourself a chance to take over.

I hate them I hate them I hate them.

8. alright, should we send money to Davis for this battle?
This whole thing makes me SO mad!

Sorry, GOP assholes, you had your chance to win the gubernatorial race - it was called the 2002 election. You lost. As you are so fond of saying to us regarding the 2000 stolen election, "Get over it".

Run a candidate in 2006 when the election cycle comes around again. I cannot believe that it is legitimate to do this recall just because one side has a bunch of sore losers who can't deal with the outcome of a fair election.

13. And if it fails on October 7?
Will the next attempt be on December 2? February 3?

Can they keep doing this indefinitely? Do they have to collect new signatures each time?

14. if it fails, hopefully, they'll crawl back into their holes
but they could keep doing it as long as they want and keep forcing the state to run an election if it qualifies
