US AD BASHES MCCAIN AS 'HERO OF FRANCE'

WASHINGTON, March 21, 2008 (AFP) - A liberal American group Friday released an advertisement that rails on Republican White House nominee John McCain for backing a US Air Force decision to award a huge contract to Europe's Airbus.
"A message of thanks to John McCain from the French people," says the video ad, which is in French with English subtitles and was issued by the Campaign for America's Future, a self-described "progressive" think tank.
"John McCain, hero of France," reads a banner on the Arc de Triomphe in the opening scene, and later McCain is depicted as wearing a beret and a curly mustache.
"Thanks for helping the US military choose a French company, Airbus. Tens of thousands of jobs for the French and thousands fewer for Americans, ha, ha, ha!" it says.
"It's a great day for France. Long live John McCain and long live France."
The ad was issued the same day as a meeting between McCain and French President Nicolas Sarkozy in Paris.
McCain has been criticized by Democratic lawmakers for backing a legislative change in 2004 that allowed the deal to take place, and the liberal group cited press reports that said his aides had lobbied for EADS to win the deal.
On February 29, the contract to build up to 179 military refueling planes was awarded to Northrop Grumman Corporation and Airbus's parent company the European Aeronautic Defense and Space Company (EADS), Boeing's arch-rival in commercial aircraft.
It was a stunning upset for Boeing, until now the sole supplier of air refueling planes to the US military.
Boeing earlier this month officially challenged the decision, a move that temporarily freezes the estimated 35-billion-dollar contract.

I think it's a shame liberals have to capitalize on anti-French feelings to make a point.

Democrats using Rove tactics. DUers using Freeper tactics. Both in Both camps.

And now this.

I'm getting tired of the Internet and all things political.

Merci McCain

With our economy sputtering, can America afford to export more than 40,000 manufacturing jobs to France? As this video shows, Sen. John McCain sure seems to think so. He helped the U.S. military choose the French company Airbus for a contract estimated at more than $30 billion – a contract that could have generated at least 40,000 jobs here at home, in the USA. American workers cry foul. McCain’s adoring French fans cry, “Vive John McCain!”

6. why?
if this is true, McCain lobbied against an American company to get a government contract

Boeing is a very reputable company; it is an American company that employes Americans

I would much rather have my tax dollars stay in this country rather than going to a foreign company, especially my defense dollars

10. Boeing should not have won this contract ragardless.
They used corrupt tactics and Boeing and USAF people went to jail for this. Giving them this contract would send the signal to corporations that then can continue to be corrupt and not be punished as long as they have a fall guy.

Besides, Boeing is hiring like mad right now as they have a huge backlog of orders for civilian aircraft.

32. for illegally negotiating a $250,000-a-year job for an Air Force contracting officer
... for illegally negotiating a $250,000-a-year job for an Air Force contracting officer while she held sway over a potential multibillion-dollar contract sought by the huge aircraft manufacturer.

One-time Boeing chief financial officer Michael Sears, 57, pleaded guilty in November to a single count of aiding and abetting illegal employment negotiations. Specifically, Sears negotiated to hire Darleen Druyun at the same time she was reviewing Boeing's bid for a $20 billion contract from the Air Force for refueling tankers.

I don't see a difference between jobs shifting from Wisconsin to Georgia or a difference between jobs shifting from Milwaukee to Paris so long as the trade is fair. Firms fail in perfect competition. That's what happens.

14. I don't like french bashing. I do like the idea of throwing it on tv in everyones faces
that companies are taking jobs out of the US (outsourcing).

Who knows, maybe it will become unpopular to the corporate image or just as good to the slimy politician who cut the deal.

And again, I don't like the angle of french bashing that goes with this particular add.

and all the good old boys. There is an underlying Bush "politization of defense spending" in this story, in that the contract went to San Diego and Alabama instead of Boeing in Seattle.

The same people who lobbied McCain to change the rules that made this contract possible are now working for his campaign. This whole thing is completely disgusting, and he damn well should be ashamed of himself.

Why not mention that the company is as much German as French - or that the wings are made in Britain? No, there's French bashing in there. They could have said 'European', and been far more accurate.

28. Outsourcing is McCain's Achilles Heal.
Average Joe who is patriotic as hell knows when the factory shutters its windows, his family is screwed. They might want to vote for McCain initiallly, but if we drum his love of trade agreements into their heads, they might stop to think for once.

and which hired hand senator represents which taxpayer paid private corporation gets the loot, but not the system itself, the corruption, the fraud, waste, and defense ownership of media and voting machines. Vote for candidate A or candidate B. Tails they win, heads we lose.
