Bush May Seek Billions for Iraq After Election
WASHINGTON (Reuters) - President Bush (news - web sites) may seek an additional $40 billion or more for military operations in Iraq (news - web sites) and Afghanistan (news - web sites) next year -- on top of the $400-billion military budget he will send to Congress next month, congressional sources and budget analysts said on Wednesday.

But Bush is unlikely to send the request to Congress until after the November presidential election to minimize any political damage, the sources said.

Bush's Democratic challengers have criticized the high cost of the war in Iraq and its chaotic aftermath. They say Iraq has cost $120 billion so far despite initial administration assurances that it would be "an affordable endeavor."

White House budget officials said it is premature to speculate about an emergency war supplemental for the 2005 fiscal year starting Oct. 1.

But congressional sources said preliminary planning is underway and a request would be send to Congress in late 2004 or early 2005.

,...that he and his cabal along with the whole familial closet of horrors are brought out into the spotlight, all appropriately prosecuted for treason and crimes against humanity and other various and sundry breaches of laws, and the whole damned escapade is accurately recorded in history!!!

A woman can hope, too, can't she :D

He's putting your children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren into debt they will never be able to repay.

3. The last appeal for funding - the 87 billion as I recall
Edited on Wed Jan-21-04 06:37 PM by The_Casual_Observer
was only for 1 year. However, the press dutifully painted it as "the money needed to reconstruct Iraq" as if that was ALL it was going to take.

My thought at the time was that it was misleading, since government funding runs year to year. This "project" will require at least that much money EVERY year.

7. Our candidates should call him on it.
Let him come out and say they are just scaring you and try and deny it. He should be made accountable for this before the election.

8. that is why I posted this!!!
I hope that every single candidate does far more than call * on it! I hope they start a revolution and make this their main campaign issue! This cannot continue to go on and on and on and on! It isn't fair to anyone, especially the upcoming generations! This money is your money, my money, our children's money! I care NOT to spend it on WAR! No thank you *.

GIVE PEACE A CHANCE *! THINK ABOUT IT!!

9. Absolutely. The candidates and the DNC and every democrat running
for Congress need to hammer on this. Bush's fiscal insanity is one of his weakest points while his war making insanity is sadly one of his strongest. This links the two. Many millions of voters who could vote for Bush will start to wonder whether we can afford Bush's plans for empire. Even some Reich wing Bush worshipers who get wood from thinking about dead Iraqis will start to question whether we can afford them.

This story reminds me of the lies the administration told about what the size of the last supplemental appropriation for Iraq was going to be. People were shocked when it turned out to be $87 million and Bush took a hit in the polls. If the DNC has anyone on its staff those people should gather the administration lies about that and include it in whatever is distributed about this.
