Cheney, others OK'd harsh interrogations By LARA JAKES JORDAN and PAMELA HESS, Associated Press Writer
14 minutes ago

WASHINGTON - Bush administration officials from Vice President Dick Cheney on down signed off on using harsh interrogation techniques against suspected terrorists after asking the Justice Department to endorse their legality, The Associated Press has learned.

The officials also took care to insulate President Bush from a series of meetings where CIA interrogation methods, including waterboarding, which simulates drowning, were discussed and ultimately approved.

A former senior U.S. intelligence official familiar with the meetings described them Thursday to the AP to confirm details first reported by ABC News on Wednesday. The intelligence official spoke on condition of anonymity because he was not authorized to publicly discuss the issue.

Between 2002 and 2003, the Justice Department issued several memos from its Office of Legal Counsel that justified using the interrogation tactics, including ones that critics call torture.

1. Why don't they fucking say it? "Hard interrogation" my ass. It's TORTURE.
Edited on Thu Apr-10-08 06:49 PM by Bonobo
War-criminal.

He should be hanged by the International Court as a war criminal and for the crime of high treason.

On Edit: If any Mods want to delete this, please consider that this is, in no way, a personal threat of ANY KIND.

Please do not censor my statement. I believe it strongly and my right to say it should not be taken from me.

7. I think Bush and his regime should be prosecuted to the fullest extent of international law.
I hope they give them the maximum sentence available.

That says everything you wanted to say, and still covers your ass.

23. Nope- he
should be hung- period. As a war criminal, it was good enough for the nazis and good enough for Saddam- it's good enough for that fat piece of robotic shit that walks like a man.

The crimes committed by these crimnals will be worn on this country for generations.

Hang them all- OR turn them over to the Iraqis to be tried. THAT would be fucking justice.

19. Just so you know...
I read something today(Don't ask me where. I read so much stuff for the website, my brain is melted) and there was this one-liner in it. The one-liner said(I paraphrase, but closely) that the buzz in Washington is that wise is the person that looks for the real fun to start after the election. That a Democratic-Controlled DoJ would be looking into war crimes vigorously and with intent.

I would suspect that if this is a plan in some quarters, it has to do with being after pardons could be issued and the memory of Iran-Contra.

Whether this is true or not

Whether you have criticisms by the thousands about Vichy Democrats; Neville Chamberlain Democrats; wimp-ass Democrats; candidates or zealot supporters you disagree with; primary idiocies . . .

This is as good a reason as any to go all-out and get as many Democrats in office this cycle as possible.

Max it out

Edited on Thu Apr-10-08 07:07 PM by SpiralHawk
For the evil, anti-Christian torture he and his cabal of corrupt republicon cronies have brought to the world, disgracing the soul of the United States of America.

And then to compound the evil and brutality, he lied about it
to American citizens and the world community over and over and over.

who've bought into the sh*t that these corrupt lunatics have been peddling I just want to say:

Pure evil they are SpiralHawk. Pure evil. And now everyone will know it.

For so long I've felt inadequate at my inability to get this story across - because they didn't want to hear it, and didn't want to know it. Now, finally, the real story is going mainstream where they can't ignore it.

"Free Tibet" ... indeed.

But this is not new, you know. Details change, degrees of removal or "deniability" change, but remember Pinochet, remember that this kind of thing has been going on continuously under both Dem and Rep admins for decades, and that nobody ever expects the USA to be accountable. Nobody. I expect the next move will be for Blackwater and similar outfits to go entirely offshore, yet still be funded the same.

43. "took care to insulate president b*sh"
to me that's admitting that what they were doing was illegal, and the white house counsel most likely told them so, and they, out of shear LOVE for this country in stopping those terra-ists decided to start torturing captives!

They have no conscience - and our Democratic Congress should look into their war crimes - I don't care that it's an election year - THEY do - but I don't. Justice must be served when we're talking about torturing other human beings and the million dead bodies that have been deposited in Iraq thanks to this invasion.

WHERE'S THAT GUY THAT WAS BEHIND THE ATTACKS, ANYHOW???? I just love how they don't even talk about him, and just talk about seeking victory in Iraq!

45. And Failure To Impeach "OK's" Bushcheney
Because torture and war crimes can be aided and abetted both before and AFTER the fact.

Certainly the bushcheney war criminals have earned themselves a place in infamy via moral treason against our once-great nation.

But the oxymoronic mumblings of DC Dems, as they continue to ignore the rotting elephant carcass in our national living room, are no less an enabling of the ongoing horror. And moreover, a willful abrogation of both our treaty obligations and US Constitutional demands.

Only impeachment holds out any hope to reunite the American People around our core principles.

55. So it sounds like this was all Cheney's idea,
doesn't it? He asked the Justice Dept. to issue the memos justifying torture & found a willing accomplice in John Yoo. Memos in hand, he held high-level meetings with the CIA to ask them what torture tactics they needed. Or even to TELL them what torture tactics they were now authorized to use & order the CIA to implement them. And suddenly the CIA can torture detainees & it's all legal. Cheney's talked before about operating "on the dark side" & this is probably what he meant. It sounds like he basically created the torture policies himelf, & I honestly think he got a kick out of it.
