WMD Find in Iraq Still Possible, Cheney Says

WASHINGTON — Vice President Dick Cheney said it is still possible that investigators will find weapons of mass destruction in Iraq, reviving the possibility after nine months of fruitless searches.

... In the NPR interview, broadcast Thursday, Cheney also repeated allegations that semi-trailers found in Iraq were part of a weapons program. He called the trailers ``conclusive evidence'' that Saddam ``did in fact have programs for weapons of mass destruction.''

... In the NPR interview, Cheney also repeated the administration's assertion that Iraq had ties to al-Qaida, but he said the contacts ``would be limited to very few people handled on a very narrow track and not widely discussed or known about in his own government.''

Cheney said ``there's overwhelming evidence'' of an Iraq-al-Qaida connection, citing a new discovery: ``documents indicating that a guy named Abdul Rachman Yasin, who was part of the team who attacked the World Trade Center in 1993, when he arrived back in Iraq was put on the payroll and provided a house, safe harbor and sanctuary,'' Cheney said. ``I'm very confident there was an established relationship there.''

IMO it is not easy to plant weapons and make it look for real. There are to many associated programs and the like to have in place. A big stash of WMD's without the supporting infrastructure would just lead to more questions and suspicions. Like the anthrax leading back to a US military base.

are there any adults in this administration willing to say they made a mistake.

Look at all the money they are wasting.......it should come out of their pockets. David Kay is leaving and they are appointing someone else to replace him........How about sending them all home.

This comment is addressed to Senior Correspondent Juan Wiliams.

Mr. Williams:

Your interview with Vice President Cheney this morning was essentially an unchecked propaganda performance by the Vice President.

In addition to other absurd claims, Mr. Cheney cited "overwhelming evidence" of an al Qaeda connection with Hussein's government in Iraq. There is no such thing.

If you are really going to interview someone, you need to be a little more assertive with your questions. Yes, you initially asked hard questions, but then you cowered as Mr. Cheney rolled over you with his propaganda machine. I expect the Bush administration to roll over Paula Zahn; I expect professional journalism from NPR.

If you are afraid of Dick Cheney, interview Wayne Newton next time.

She seemed to let the continue to qualify and re-qualify and add innuendo to speculation and never nailed them to the wall, for example, with "I'm not asking you about what is possible. I am asking you a very simple question." Then go through the Chimp's 2003 State of the Union speech:

1. "Where are the 500 tons of sarin?"

2. "Where are the 38,000 liters of ricin?"

3. "Where are the thousands of liters of anthrax?"

And keep hammering them, hammering them, hammering them.
